She
helplessly
defeats me
completely
in
ad
vertantly
The old me would
be
smiling
so
ig
no
rantly
But these days
I lay
on my back
on the tracks
like the train
can ease the pain
and yet another rail-strike
feels like
i'm straining
the rain
from my
drenched clothes again.
In the sunshine
blind
by the
coastline
the last page
of my book
looks
like days worth
of reading
I'm seeing the sunset
and it's so
serene
yet
I can't take my
mind
off the life that
i'm leaving behind
in the shadows
who knows
the grass
grows in the palm of my hand
and the
sand
on the beach below me
throws me
so golden
as old as time
eternity in a grain of sand
like a boat on dry land
slipped from the chains
of the harbour
I harbour
the thought
of just leaving
breathing in the
cool air
the sun has now
set
let
the jet streams in the
sky fade to black
to return in the morning
dawning
on me
that I'll
never see this sight again
taking it all in
a glimpse at
the stars
I am so far from home
I smile at the moon now
tune into the
gloom
now take a walk
along the
shore
so many times before
I've strolled here
alone
but not on my own
Silence at night
is so different
to regular
daylight
silence
the science of religion
nothing more
than fiction
I read my last page
so dismayed at the
progress
I have made
and the tide shifts
the cliffs
seem much taller
or am
I now smaller
than I was before
crawling on the ocean floor
beneath the waves
the infinite
deep
sit down on the beach
reach out
for you
and I fall
asleep.
