Id also rather have the one on the top. Looks like a case of good genetics and bad growing. Im pretty sure that plant just didnt get enough light so the buds couldnt develop to their full potential.

difference genetic? not ever good nice is going to smoke nice and not all "shady nugs" are going to smoke bad. its just a geenral tip which works in most cases.
the shady nugs seem to have a nice bit of trichs which is why im not surprised it didnt smoke bad
