The first ever meeting for SGURD was held last Thursday, 29th June. I feel we have placed the first building block in what has the potential to be a huge 'leg-up' in the psychological evolution of our society.
The meeting consisted of 8 people, all of which had some very valuable input (except Dangermouse who felt it a forum to discuss Dawson's Creek, he settled down though).
We have decided to hold another meeting on Thursday, 13th July 2000 @ 8pm EST. This meeting will contain a certain structure and agenda which I will be collaborating over the next week or so. We have also decided upon some chat rules so that the meeting has more form and flow.
The next meetings agenda will consist of 5 items, which will be posted here prior to the meeting so that all attendees can prepare.
I urge everybody to attend. Bear in mind that you are not obliged to join in, you are free to spectate in you like. I think that the topics at hand will get most of us fired up though.
I look forward to seeing everybody at the next meeting of the Society for Greater Understanding of Recreational Drugs.
Until then...

is there any chance you could make the meeting a bit later in the evening?
some of us poor Perthites haven't even made it home from work by then

I'd really like to be involved (seeing as I've been waiting around 7 years for something good to come of SGURD

), but I rarely get home before 6:30pm

Yeh, what the hells happening?
I tried to come to the second meeting and couldn't log onto the irc server at all.
OJ, where are you?

Can anyone from the first meeting enlighten me as to the standing of SGURD - I unfortunately missed the first meeting but am still very interested in this project. The City of Moreland (Melbourne) through a recent study (held closely under wraps) as indetified that there has been an increase in drug use (doh!) at community run dance parties. It see's this as a major concern and is in the development stage of a program that will tackle these issue's. I know of this through contacts that I have there - having worked as a voluntary youth worker for the council. It's very much in it's infant stage - and from my dealings in the past with council procedure, it's at it's most vulnerable to be influenced.
I would like to see a program developed focusing heavily on education and harm minimisation. It's a touchy subject and must be treaded carefuly - so as not to be seen as encouraging the use of drugs (this is a government body remember) I do see this achievable if tackled in the proper fashion - as was the implemtation of the needle exchange program in the Glenroy area years back.
Anyway, I wanted to use the SGURD group as a sounding board to gather valuable inforamtion and people's opnion. I think the group could develop into a poweverful catalyst if orgainsed well - but I also realise that this requires enormous amounts of people's resources - many who simply do not have the time. Also, it's also a touchy subject in people's surroundings, many who would prefer silent particpation or none due to consequences that could arise. Hehehe I know my work would freak.
Anyway, any forthcoming information would be useful. Orange Juice are you still interested?
