Sex, drugs, but no rock ’n roll in Iowa GOP platform

CEDAR RAPIDS | “God” gets higher billing, but no more mention in the Republican Party of Iowa’s proposed platform than “sex.”

The platform, which will be debated by about 2,000 delegates at the GOP’s state convention beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines has been trimmed from the 17,534-word document delegates approved two years ago to just 2,027 words.

That’s likely to be the most dramatic change in the platform, according to Republican Gov. Terry Branstad.

“We know the make-up of the grassroots who really are the ones who are going to write the platform well enough that I don’t expect to see radical changes in the platform,” he said earlier this week.

In trimming the platform, multiple mentions of God were omitted. After years of the party being controlled by the Christian right, the 2012 convention, dominated by libertarian-leaning “Paulistas” — followers of Ron Paul or his son, Rand Paul, or both — reduced the mentions of God to just three.

There’s one mention in the 2014 draft in acknowledging “our rights derive from God and are therefore unalienable and include life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (i.e. private property).”

The only sex in the platform is a plank in support of legislation to ban groups, Planned Parenthood, specifically, from teaching sex education and “promoting promiscuous behavior and abortion” in public schools.

There’s no mention of the state gas tax despite a simmering debate — and vocal opposition from former GOP Chairman A.J. Spiker — about raising the 22-cent-per gallon tax that hasn’t been changed in more than two decades.

“I think we pretty much know the make-up of that convention is not likely to recommend an increase in the gas tax,” Branstad said. “Nor do I think they are going to change our stand on support for one man, one woman marriage and prolife and those things.

He doubts the convention will follow the lead of U.S. House 1st District Republicans who adopted a plank saying there should be no role for government in marriage.

“The state platform committee has not gone that direction, so I don’t foresee that happening,” Branstad said.

The DRAFT platform calls for a constitutional amendment supporting the “honored tradition of marriage as the legal union between one natural man and one natural woman.”

It also calls for promoting alternatives to abortion and opposing public funding of abortion.

Marijuana didn’t make the platform, but support for cannabis oil for medicinal purposes is included.

The proposed platform calls for an end to estate taxes or “death taxes,” replacing the federal income tax with a consumption tax, repealing the Affordable Care Act — Obamacare, abolishing of Common Core and Iowa Core, supporting the 2nd Amendment and retaining the Electoral College.

This makes me sick.. a main point of the founding fathers was that without this "tax" generations of wealthy people retain control forever with their wealth, even more than they do already. With the significant and rapidly increasing separation between the haves and have nots and the death of the middle class.. I think the greed monsters feel it time to seal the deal by trying to lock in their financial superiority.

Consumption tax8(... I think a greed tax would serve this world allot more.. once a year good people can come and look at all the worthless shit and computer numbers, that represent accounts of even more worthless shit, the greedy obsess over, so we all can poke the greedy beasts out of their fake smiles.. just case we didn't we need assurance of how miserable they are. We then take a great portion of their DOC and distribute back to the good people of earth... have to stop enabling these people, they are sick and need some tough love.

Here is a novel idea.. pay people more so they can afford to pay for the roads the rich need to transport the garbage they brainwash people into buying, through the media they own. Its not that taxes are so bad, just seem so bad when all the profits go the greedies, while good people can't sleep at night because the worry about affording gas to make it to work. People will realize we have the technology to provide everyone with everything, working a three day work week ... keep pushing and they will burn you on a pile of your own worthless money.

I wonder what God thinks of religion? I wonder what God thinks of modern republicans or politicians in general. I wonder what God thinks of groups that persecute sections of the good people it created. I wonder what God thinks of groups of people who claim to be its chosen group, or to promote the correct way of life in its eye's, who go around causing misery in its name and promoting hate and the hell of war.

I wonder what God thinks of people that promote a lifestyle that favors a tiny few and impoverishes the masses.. I wonder how many people would choose abortion if society placed more importance on important things... if one family member was able to earn a wage while the other was able to care for more important things, like teaching and looking after their children and promoting a rich life. With technology and the size on the global work force, we all could work a three day week. that would mean a parent is home at all times and we could all have anything and have the time to realize whats important.

If we weren't worked so hard for so little that having a child takes on such a financial and overall burden , would abortion be as frequent.

In you views, does this apply to everyone.. because i don't see how it applies, in your eye's, to the good homosexuals that God created or to the good people who are so stuck by working poverty, in which the only thing they have time to pursue is keeping their heads above water.. by working full time and making meetings at work on how to get their food share benefits from the government. Benefits you all would like to see removed. I get ya.. there is no life, liberty, or hapiness in having access to health care in your eyes. such a good slave labor force why waste money on health care.. just because the people need help eating, even though they are working full time.. there would be no required assistance with health care.. your sick and belive your own lies.

Its pretty clear from this that you are following the path of a cast system.. I had strong hopes for a libertarian birth out of the utterly defunct republican party, seems clearly not the case.. but this is america and I have faith we are going to send you clowns the way of the dodo bird.

Enjoy the trip.
