I have been using tramadol since 2003.
In 2004 I had my gall bladder removed. Ever since then occasionally I get severe stomach pain when the tramadol is starting to kick in. This happens more often when I need to use hydrocodone, codeine, etc when I run out of tramadol before refill date.
I ran out of tramadol early again and refill can not be picked up until tomorrow. So, I've been using hydrocodone for the past couple of days. Well, today's first hydrocodone dose just kicked in. And I am having severe stomach pain. This has never been a problem until i had my gall bladder removed back in 2004.
It's hard to describe the pain, but it's only when I use an opioid. It does not happen often. And it only lasts about 5 minutes, then it goes away and doesn't return on it's own. It always occurs as the opioid is beginning to take effect.
I remember one time, 45 minutes after I took my daily tramadol dose, I was on my way to a job interview out of town. I had to pull over on the side of the road my stomach hurt so bad.
It's not a nausea sensation. It's a sharp, squeezing pain in the stomach.
Wonder what this is? Again, it doesn't happen every time I use tramadol or another opioid. Just on occasion. Happens more often when I have to use hydrocodone or codeine.
It begins right before or right when the drug takes effect. And lasts bout 5 minutes. Then just goes away.
