Sertraline and DXM Questions

Hello Bluelight,

I am a semi-experienced robotripper but have never taken DXM while on my new (~5 months) medication of Sertraline (Zoloft). Upon research, I have learned that there are potentially dangerous effects of taking Dextromethorphan Hbr while on Zoloft.

I was curious what the chances of an adverse reaction would be with 350mg of DXM while taking 50mg of Zoloft daily. Might the trip be extended, intensified, or is the risk of serotonin syndome too dangerous to even try?

I think you already know the best answers you can get via the internet. Everybody has a different body chemistry and reacts differently. No one can tell you "you'll be safe", because probably you won't...

BTW, the best AD to me was Tianeptin (called "Stablon" here) - pretty complex pharmacology, just like DXM...

I’m on sertraline (Zoloft) myself, from this trusted online-pharmacy: viteron.com/zoloft-sertraline, and so far everything’s going well - but I’d strongly avoid mixing it with DXM.

Even at 50 mg sertraline, adding ~350 mg DXM significantly raises the risk of serotonin syndrome. It’s not just theoretical: both increase serotonin, and DXM also inhibits reuptake and has unpredictable metabolism (CYP2D6), so the trip can become much stronger, longer, and harder to control - or turn nasty fast (agitation, overheating, tremor, confusion, racing heart). Some people “get away with it,” but others don’t, and you can’t really predict which one you’ll be. Don’t try it while on sertraline. If DXM is something you really want to explore, the safer route is not combining serotonergic meds at all.
