serotonin problems??

hi everyone

im not an mdma/ecstasy user but wondered if you could help me out?

i suffer from depression and used ssri's on and off in the past like a few weeks here and there for over 10 years.

recently i took 10mg escitalopram and got depersonalization and because i dont use street drugs this scared the hell out of me!

anyway psychiatrist said it would go and it did reduce but i also have other symptoms such as seeing flashes of colous and have heard a voice say hello in my head.

also on one occasion when the telephone stopped ringing it was like i could still here it in my mind but audibly if that makes any sence.

im asking you guys because as with mdma i have taken more ssri than prescribed on one occasion (not above daily dose) and wondered if you reckon i have screwed up my serotonin system and how do i restore it.

im starting to think ssri's are way more risking than the pharmaceutical companies make out!

any help appreciated
 
I know the verdict is still out on how effective it really is versus placebo but I take 5-htp daily and it seems to keep me very well balanced...I abuse serotonin drugs just about every weekend and I always feel up to par(unless hungover from alcohol).
 
you are fine it will go away a week tops. I suffered from that shit for two months and noticed SSRIs did nothing but amplify that. just needed time
 
thanx guys but it has actually been over a month now. thats why im asking on here.

the stupid doc just said he is going to watch and wait!

i guess my depression has made it worse by not eating and sleeping well though.

thanx for the help though i might try that 5-htp stuff
 
^ you should edit your post with that that's a vital piece of info :P

imo you should try to get off the meds. they don't do anything except give you a very sporadic spurt of serotonin, it's just a mask. to me it's no different than taking a little bit of E everyday. that is why effects do not show until 4-6 weeks. you can gain your serotonin back other ways. it will take time i know how bad it sucks to stick it out but you will notice when you feel better
 
im off meds now. thats why its so odd!!
been off the meds for about 7 weeks!

im not sure if ssri are like E though because the ssri blocks the reuptake pump but the E releases serotonin and blocks the reuptake thats why i have never felt euphoria on ssri just stupid side effects.lol

same, I never felt euphoria either, that's why I said it's equivalent to a miniscule amount of E imo, it builds up over time.
