Hi folks I've just started on seroquel 25mg 1 to be taken at nite. Ive been taking it now for 10 nites now. But I don't think it's suitable for my sleep could I safely stop taking it now to avoid any withdrawals?

Do not assume the authority of a doctor and tell people to stop taking their meds

Is seroquel that bad of a psyc med? I think I would be better off with mirtazapine for insomnia. Are there bad side effects from seroquel?

this is a hard drug, only use it if extremely necessary, discontinuation syndrome is heavy, it may give you some psychological scars, not mentioning the weight gain, there are less aggressive options for insomnia

25 is very small. I was on 800 in a psych ward. 200 is my sweet spot to help me sleep.

The other two posters in this thread are spot on. But i actually liked the drug. It evened me out and made me less "edgy".

thanks for clarifying, jose. i take mirtazapine and find it benign. i'm afraid to discontinue in case it is helping in some way, but i doubt it.

sorry it didn't work for you, SlowandFastandSlow. for me the sedation completely dissipated after a few months.

It's cool, I seem to respond strangely to this kinda thing, seroquel makes me completely unstable and ridiculously ragey the day after

You guys should know better. Feel free to pm with questions and so on. But that we don't play doctor allows the whole website to stay up. If we did, they'd have grounds to shut down our entire community here.

25mg of Seroquel isn't much. People take 800mg of it. 25mg I would imagine isn't even therapeutic unless it's just for sleep. Usually they inch it up, but maybe not in your case.

If you want to stop taking your medication, please have an open, honest conversation with your provider about it.

Good advice everyone. We are not doctors, we can only give armchair advice and hopefully back up claims and advice with support.

OP I cant imagine youll have to much trouble from such a low dose. I dont have much experience with Seroquel, but from anecdotes from my friends, 25 mg for a short duration like that shouldn't cause too much upset. Let us know how it goes!

I've been wondering about Seroquel. My insurance wanted to know if I'd be willing to switch because apparently it's cheaper. Thanks for opening this thread. I guess from the reviews here I'd say it's not for me.

You only need to reply once. No, we cannot tell people that they should get off of their prescriptions. You should know this by now. You have more than 2,500 posts. This is the rules. Especially in MH.

To be clear, you were telling someone that they should get off of prescribed Seroquel, which you denoted as a "hard drug". That's way past the line of okay.

I give facts, not medical advice.

Bringing other mods in won't help you in the way that you're thinking. You're making things worse for yourself. I'd count myself lucky not to get an infraction. But if you keep on being like this, you'll get one.

Saying that 25 mg of Seroquel is a small dose isn't comparable to encouraging someone to stop taking their psychiatric medication...anyone can do a bit of research and find if a certain dose of a drug is big or small, but only the psychiatrist treating the person is qualified to tell them to stop taking a medication they prescribed.
