i have a buddy that had a nice vicoden habit going..he would also use phenibut at around 1 gram a day..he is out of both and is determined to quit but he hasnt slept in 3 days..i told him seroquel would put him out but what dosage??he has nothing else at his disposal..

anyone have experience with using seroquel for the insomnia during withdrawals??

Seroquel will most certainly help with the insomnia, although it will make him even more of a zombie than possible during Opiate withdrawal. Have him use low dose Seroquel, 12.5-50mg is best for sleep; it shouldn't act as an anti-psychotic at that dosage, which is a good thing since he needs all the dopamine he can get during the kick.

It would definitely work for insomnia, as it is an antipsychotic after all, though I don't think it's a very good choice. Maybe suggest that he try a sedative antihistamine like hydroxyzine or doxylamine succinate before he sedates himself with seroquel.

^ Seriously. At low dosages (<75mg), it acts primarily as an anti-cholingergenic. You can get good anti-cholingergenic effects from Doxylamine (best OTC sleep aid, imo) without the shitstorm of side effects that come with Seroquel.
