sepp bladder appreciation thread v show love &/or distaste

Well fuck Russia what would those commi fucks know about sport. Cunts couldn't even make it snow for their Winter Olympics. Down hill sports were a travesty

In my opinion the ‘authorities’ would never make a move on this until the timing of the situation could be manipulated to advance their own goals (pardon the pun) Every situation bad or good is seized upon when the time is right to further their agenda and this is no different.

Take the banks who are complicit in all momentary fraud on a grand scale. It’s not in the FBI’s or America’s interest to start hanging bankers out to dry and allow them to talk because they also rely on the same people to take care of their financial shady dealings. So they bury the bad stuff and allow them to continue their illegal practices…because it benefits them.

So FIFA have been left alone up to this point because they must have been of some use. So why now with the investigation/naming & shaming. I can’t see it all hanging on these guys being in the same country at the same time or the notion the American banks have all of a sudden noticed some financial irregularities and brought it to the attention of the FBI.

That article is a good read, sure as hell is gonna get messy once these guys start spilling the beans. Jack Warner mentions fearing for his life…that’s right because the same powerful people/agencies who have left you alone up until now are coming for you and you know how far up the chain this goes.

While I have some sympathy with what you allude to, not everything is a conspiracy.

Regarding the emboldened bit of your quote. Russia were awarded the world cup (and Qatar there's also) in December 2010. It is the Qatari bid that has brought forward the allegations, not the Russian bid. To that extent it's an unfortunate coincidence of timing, or rather that both bids were decided at the same time, that leaves Russia embroiled in this now to any extent. At what time since 2010 would you have been happy that it wasn't some anti-Russian conspiracy? My guess is never. My guess is you will say "Well, what about before 2010?". All I can say is that before 2010 the fraud was not so completely blatant. Of course it existed, it's documented, but it was the Qataris who were stupid enough to not cover their tracks. And how can you cover your tracks in the light of winning a bid to stage a world tournament of a sport you have no history in, no infrastructure to support, and the promise of completely unsuitable conditions in which to play it?

Martin Lipton, sports journalist, has been one of the main protagonists in fingering Warner. So much so that Warner threatened to sue him in 2002. Lipton said "Go on then". Needless to say Warner shut up. But even Lipton, at that time, had no hard evidence. When Blatter said the other day "people who do bad things will try to cover them up" he was speaking with more knowledge than guesswork. Things were covered up, and covered up well. It was only with Blazer's arrest (or rather the investigation into him) that the evidence started to surface. And, in true Al Capone style, it all came about because of someone not paying taxes rather than what we might see as the real crimes of bribery, corruption and embezzlement. The more they dug into Blazer, the more they found.

But not even Lipton sees the Russian world cup winning bid as a crime. As he sees it "the crime there was not Russia winning, rather that England received only two votes. The crime with the 2022 bids was Qatar winning."

I'm willing to bet with you on this. If you are right, and it's all an American anti-Russian conspiracy, then surely the 2018 bid will be reopened yes? I'm willing to bet it won't be and that Russia will hold the 2018 world cup.

I certainly wouldn't be as confident betting the same on Qatar holding the 2022 version.

And, to bolster what you were saying yourself...I'm sure there is more than a bit of self-interest from the Americans. They were part of a failed bid for 2022, the one Qatar won. This undoubtedly pissed off the US football big-wigs. Whether that in itself was big enough to instigate an FBI investigation, I'm not sure. "Soccer" just ain't that big in the US.

Who knows exactly how these things work? But the failed bid, coupled with Blazer's wrong-doings and obvious meetings and financial mispractice (erm, fraud) openly being carried out within the US finance sector (not least by Jack Warners two sons who laundered money really obviously and badly if the affidavits are to be believed) certainly seem to have brought this all about together.

If anything it's a bit weird that the Russians aren't being pursued hotly themselves. They deleted all the bidding process from their computers. Somebody pressed the wrong button apparently. :|

Some intriguing news coming out of Ireland now. John Delaney, the chief executive of the Football Association of Ireland, has apparently been on Irish radio revealing that his organisation received five million euros from Fifa in 2009 in the wake of Thierry Henry’s infamous handball to avoid any legal action.

I'm, er, beginning to see a pattern that might be described as a culture here...
