If you see things from a bit of a broader perspective, instead of focusing only on how the proposed law would affect you personally, you may notice that they are taking our rights away, one law at a time.
I think it is the fact that the gov feels it is their right to control our consciousness that is so upsetting to many people here.
As it is, the situation reminded me of Jews in Nazi Germany, for example, who didn't rise up and protest when the Nazis began persecuting the gays, since that was a different group. Then foreigners began getting persecuted, and the Jews didn't protest again. Etc. etc. until the Jews themselves became the targets.
(I admit that I may have the order of things wrong here, and also that the Jews were unlikely to have been successful in rising up, but I believe that my point is undamaged by this.)
In the same way, the gov may not have made your DOC illegal yet, but it will soon, you can bet on it.
OTOH, if your DOC is already illegal, and you therefore don't care about them making more people's DOCs illegal, it seems like you are missing the point.
