Senate passes bill opens door to suing drug dealers (US:NH)

IMHO the point of this law is to provide a financial incentive for ratting out your dealer once you get caught.
This is an extention of the "reduced sentence for informants" theory, and the great advantage of this to the court system is that the dealer will foot the bill!
The Drug Dealer Liability Act is model legislation intended as a deterrent, particularly to small-time dealers who own property. It’s also intended to encourage users to identify and seek payment for drug treatment from their dealers

Although only certain states have currently enacted this law, it is intended as a "model legislation" for other states to adopt. The other states will notice a study published by New Hampshire bragging about the increase in percentage of informants, and copy the law onto their own books as a political tool to "be tough on crime".

If someone has a gambling addiction or alcohol addiction, do their kids sue the casinos or beer manufacturers for lost college money? I think not.

actually, that's a good idea. to the courts! ...and to riches!

Well, if I was in the shoes of a senator who wanted to decrease drug use, this is a brilliant idea. Dealers now run the risk of getting sued. That's all I'm going to say.

I'm so glad I live in Australia where dealers just get shot. Not sued.

I give it three years before our "government" (the sock puppet on Bush's right hand), decides that suing dealers is the best way to combat drugs.
