i saw an episode of intervention where an 8 year old boy would use his hands to choke himself & get a kind of high off of this self asphyxiation. he did it up thru his adolescence before he turned to IV heroin BUT he did it so much that he had a semi-permanent red mark/rash-like thing on his neck. i've heard of self-asphyxiation for fun/entertainment but never really understood the idea of getting a 'high' out of it. i was just kind of wondering if anyone else knew any information or experience on this? i'm just curious & like to be knowledgable of things & in no way, shape, or form do i want to self-harm myself to get high. i find it very very dangerous & scary. thanks!

Me and my sister tried this when we were like 17. She said I had a seizure. I don't remember. That was the only time we tried this. It's very dangerous. I did not feel anything. I just passed out. What happens is you cut off the blood supply to your brain and it can cause permenant damage from just one try. It can kill you. It's not worth trying. It's idiotic.

Some people get off normally. Others get off by beating their lover. Some get off by watching things, others by eating. Even more so by doing drugs.

Just another way that some people get their kicks. Everyones personal, and if you dont think its for you it definitely isnt lol.

My point is: these people get "high" off of this because it is what their brain enjoys (for whatever reason....a psychiatrist could probably name a million different reasons why someone would choke themselves out and get enjoyment out of it.

Hard to conceptualize how this can equate to drug use, but if you think about it its obvious. Both bring pleasure and enjoyment to the person doing it. That is why others dont 'enjoy' choking themselves/SO out.

Now, if this is your thing, by all means go for it, just be safe and perhaps figure out what underlying reason there is for WHY you enjoy it. But, if you dont really derive pleasure from this then you "wont get high".

As I said, "getting high" can mean deriving pleasure and euphoria, altering your state, it is not just drugs that can do this. On this site we talk about drugs more than any other way, which is why I had to explain this all; we are in the context of a drug site.

choking yourself is dumb, you can cause brain damage, if you wanna get high for free, you can always just crouch, look at the floor and breathe really fast for 20 seconds, than stand up fast and blow into your thumb, gives a nice feeling for about 5-10 seconds but, you can pass out and hurt yourself so do that only when someone is holding you, I kinda like that feeling and i do that about once in 2 months when I'm bored and have nothing to do...

Wow DoomMood that helped a lot! I guess everyone is different & to each his own... Now that I read your post tho I'm kind of thinking that this thread doesn't belong here. Thanks for the input of the personal experiences too. I would like to hear more tho! Haha. When I was in middle school I remember some of the kids would make themselves 'pass' out. I even coaxed my friend into trying it jus to see what would happen (man I feel like an idiot thinking about that now) luckily he did NOT try it.

(sorry first post here after lurking for months and finally signing up!)

I've never done this to get high, but I find during sex and also masturbation I can only orgasm after prolonged periods of holding my breath and breath control or my partners hand around my mouth/neck. so I can kind of relate but only in a sexual sense. Everyday kicks I would get no high from restricting my breathing!

^ wow now that us interesting. & I don't mean that in a bad way at all... I don't find holding your breath for a long period of time as a danger unless it's for like a REALLY long time... & I can kind of see how you would achieve such an orgasm after such anticipation... You know, I may have to try something along those lines next time ;). But not in a way to get high

My whole point was that is a way of getting high. We just dont perceive it as such because we are condition to think high=chemical drugs. Definitely has the same effects (euphoria, pleasure, craving for it), does it not?

Sex is a like drug for many people, and gets them high. Ever hear of Sex Anonymous? Not just named the same because it sounds cool.

And as I said I dont practice self asphyxiation, but I once had a partner that enjoyed that along with a lot of BDSM. Just how they get off.

Yes DoomMood. I understood your post 110%. Very good info. I was thanking the others for the experience input. HOWEVER, you say that we are conditioned to believe that a 'high' is achieved by thru a chemical substance which I know is not the case. But Do you think that the act of self asphyxiation, sex, eating, etc is considered a 'drug'? I do not. I think that 'drugs' are limited to substances. That is why I questioned this thread belonging in "Other Drugs"

^ I think that was what my peers called it in junior high, "the choking game" thanks for the link. I'll check it out. & don't worry, I am not going to asphyxiate myself in any way at all. I am actually very against it. I was just curious and wanted some info, opinions, experiences, etc. & so far I'm quite satisfied with the feedback. Keep it coming! :)

^ Agreed! Personally I think the breath control and hands round the neck is more of a control thing period, it's sexy to be powerless(ish) for me anyways, not so much the actual lack of air, although for some I'm sure that suits them well, it doesn't seem like us :)
Oh and welcome Fellow n00b! :D

Just because its not a drug doesn't mean it cant get you high.

Gambling Anonymous, Sex Anonymous, all addictions that get the "users high".

Some get high from eating, others get a "runners high". Drugs can cause highs, but highs do not necessarily need to be from drugs. That is my point: we are conditioned to associate high with drugs, when in reality a high can be associated with anything and cause almost identical effects.
