Seeking spiritual guidance for solo mushroom trip

I have been intensely drawn to psychedelics for years. I love the novelty and feel there is a lot to learn. The trouble is, I'm not quite sure where to go from here. In some searches for suggestions of activities, I see a lot of people who seem to be about getting "fucked up" that suggest watching movies or playing with video games. That's certainly not what I'm after. On the other end of the spectrum, I see some reports of people praying to the mushroom goddess and asking for her help and guidance, sometimes along with some sort of ceremony or sacrament. That's a bit too much for me.
I would like to use these for personal growth, but I'm a bit lost about how. I've got interests in psychology, eastern philosophy, origins of religion, physics, the meaning of life, etc., but I don't have a singular question that I feel I need to ask, nor do I necessarily believe that mushrooms will "provide" me with an answer. I'm more of the camp that they can unlock other pathways in your brain that aren't normally accessible. I want to expand my mind, but don't know where to go.

For practical reasons, this/these will be solo trips inside my home. Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any suggestions. I'm sure I haven't expressed this fully correctly, but that's probably because these ideas aren't completely formulated in my own mind. To be clear, I don't have a pressing need to dose tomorrow or anything, but am seeking direction. If there's work I need to accomplish prior to the dose, I'm fully willing to put in that time and effort.

Sorry, why do you need to do it at home? Personally, I would change your environment and see what happens. I had a deeply personal meeting with myself out on the sand dunes recently. You could try something like dosing around a campfire at night and staring into the flames and the night sky, just see where it takes you. As long as you're confident you won't go crazy and try feed yourself to the fire.

Meditate upon these three quotations. Consider each individually, but IMO the real fun starts when you consider what they have in common.

"The center is not the center." - Derrida
"The Tao that can be known is not Tao." - Taoism
"If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics." - Richard Feynman

I would consider myself quite a bit spiritual, which is kind of the same as scientific or religious, IMO.

I have done lots of things under the influence, from watching movies to meditating.

I don't remember how, but somehow I began watching Twin Peaks after eating mushrooms. Wonderful, truly wonderful.
I believe I have done lots of inner work watching that show. The writing and acting are excellent, which makes you lose yourself in the story/characters quite fast.
Everything is in it, from Love to Fear, and I believe it's about what they are, like good and bad.

Anyway apart from that you could just lie down with some music. It's fun and learning ! ;)

Meditation is remarkably easier (for me), under psychedelics.

And something I have just "found out", doing yoga (on the comedown that is), is so ... liberating, really.

If you would like to do some reading I suggest "The Psychedelic Experience" from Timothy Leary.
I even found it here.

Enjoy !

I don't think there is really anything you can do to prepare for what you're going for, these sort of experiences are spontaneous. Just take Terrence McKenna's advice and take at least 5 grams in a dark room, some people like music but I find it distracting with mushrooms, and sit and see what they show you. Sometimes you'll get aliens trying to show you a movie about how to build a space ship, sometimes messianic figures will appear to you, and sometimes utter nonsense will ensue. There's really no way to control what happens, and that's kind of what's special about it anyhow.

And you know, I kind of see where you're coming from on not trying to "get fucked up" and what not, but you should at least have an open mind to how darn fun the stuff can be, because if you don't reach the sort of spiritual level you're going for you should at least be able to have a good time.

A few months ago in a different thread I posted my general methodology for working with psychedelics; maybe this will give you some ideas:

I clearly state my intent out loud just before taking whatever substance I'm using. Or I dedicate the trip to the guidance of my favorite spirit(s). The moment of ingestion is highly charged emotionally (especially if you've been doing this for years and have plenty of good and bad memories to draw on) and whatever you do at that time will set the tone for the entire trip. Then during the trip and afterwards I do my best to record any interesting or unusual thoughts and ideas that come to mind, no matter how trivial or profound or silly or dangerous they may seem at the time. By this method I always get some kind of response to what I'm asking. (Though it's not always the answer I want to hear... :))

my best mushroom trip was alone in my house. my first whole 1/8th. i took it without thinking "i want ____ from this trip" or anything like that, i just knew i was about to experience something new, and let them do the rest...

i've been known to meditate with a chunk of cactus or some fungus on my lap beforehand too.

Try not to go into it with expectations, that's the quickest way to disappointment.

I've got interests in psychology, eastern philosophy, origins of religion, physics, the meaning of life, etc.

To be fair, I've thought about this stuff and been rather moved while watching movies/reading fiction while tripping. It's pretty hit-or-miss though.

Thanks all for the replies. I'm not necessarily going in with expectations, setting myself up for disappointment. In many trips, though, I find myself almost bored - wondering what to do. The technique of sitting back and letting the trip take me where it wishes doesn't work because I don't go anywhere. I see some pretty stuff and once in a while have some insights, but again, often I end up shifting my gaze from one flowing object to another thinking to myself, "now what?" I'm not doing these too often - every couple months or so...

spiritual growth is not possible in one single magic mushroom session . let me put it this way all natural psychoactive substance on earth will help you to learn new things they are teacher plants . (it dosnt mean that they give you all the answers instead they give you all possible perspective for a single matter then you decide your self which one makes more sense. they make you change the way you look at things they make you to look for reasons .
even cannabis is teacher plant . the difference is you need to take more classes with this teacher(weed) to get to the point that for example DMT can take you in only one session(trip) .
ofcurse if you only watch movie while u high you dont go anywhere so the best place to take these so called classes (trips) is in nature .its truly eye opening . concentrating on your high and you go higher and thats when deep thoughts come to play and help you grow .

thats becuz it take years to grow spiritually . lower your expectations give it time . its not like you learn everything overnight . sometimes something will grow in you without you knowing about it .

I highly suggest reading about Chakras and Kundalini energy. DO NOT TRIP until you have learned enough about this and have mastered meditation.

My suggestion is to build shrine for satan(or suchlike) and perform sexual rituals for yourself. That should give you some insight.

I had this problem for a while, letting it take you where you will doesn't mean you must be completely passive. I know this is the same stuff you've heard before, but Imma sayin' it anyway.

Set up some activities (rather than a movie reading a few comic strips or watching an ep of a tv show can work in a shorter timeframe...choose wisely, esp. good for comeups/comedowns), I assume you listen to music, maybe view some art like famous paintings. Listen to/read some Carl Sagan. Be creative, if you do serious art/writing/music you can attempt that, or just mess around with stuff like a kid would. Experiment and find what works for you.

Be sure to change your setting, moving from your room to a car or your yard can change the whole feel (helpful if you live somewhere you can't smoke inside). Take a walk without music and appreciate scenery and think about things. Semi-structured tripping works well, I make it my primary goal to enjoy myself (though I may stray from that when going for therapeutic tripping).

Take some time to notice how you feel about these activities, maybe ponder the psycho-social motivations behind them. Insight is serendipitous. Now if going for therapeutic use, I like to dose lower and then gently follow any negative emotions, and try to understand where my discomfort is coming from. Usually ends up causing some difficulty, and I may have to do some setting changes to keep myself from getting lost in the negativity.

Most of all, I agree with this sentiment:

I dunno, I find this really hit and miss. It works sometimes, but other times you wake up the next morning and find you've smeared Beelzebub's true name all over the walls in your own shit. It stinks and it's so hard to clean off. Not for beginners. Plus one time I accidentally sold my soul to the devil forever.

"mastered meditation"? Cool story, dude.

No, seriously, get of your high horse.

Hmmmm seems like you have no Idea what your talking about. I use Kundalini and Chakra meditations while tripping, and I feel it is a great answer to the OPs question....

Anyone who knows what they are talking about will tell you This is a very powerful form of meditation and very rewarding however if you do not know what you are doing it can be dangerous, so it is best to learn and review everything before trying it sober even let alone tripping, however it is very very effective. If you need sources I will be more than happy to supply them.

Ooops im not on a high horse. I just have done proper research and know what I am talking about.

Respond to threads when you are more informed on a subject.

Thankkkks

I was in the same boat as the OP gathered everything I could learn from tripping set and setting didnt matter the same messages were always present it literally became pointless.

Until I started to practice this form of meditation which is used by Millions of people and has been around for thousands of years. My perspective and goals changed and when I was comfortable meditating while sober I tried this on Mushrooms and LSD (Separate occasions) and it opened up the most beautiful new gateways.

I hope the OP will just do his own research on this if interested.

I cant stand when people respond to shit when they are completely wrong. Its really poor misinformation and everyone would be better off if misinformation wasn't present.

That was crude comment. My suggestion was no joke. Let me give you clarification. GumbyClaymation was looking ideas for his spiritual solo trips and many good ideas has already said and I thought to give some variation. Idea was something like that, if you aren't able to use reasoning. First create artifact that reminds you of your trip intention then use your time to explore your body and it's functions. It is good to be familiar with one's own body when seeking spiritual fulfilment.
You might want to destroy that artifact at the end of trip to give you impression of achievement. Should not be too many ceremonial steps.

Listen to this and look no further, especially the Carl Sagan part (Cosmos is truly the most awesome documentary made (in the actual sense of the word (I mean, it left me in awe))). I've been in the same boat as you with solo-trips but I found that once I'm busy on an intellectual/creative level all of the spirituality comes by itself.

Most importantly though, you'll need to find this stuff out by yourself. Whatever works for me doesn't have to work for you. Look at your interests a bit closer ("psychology" and "eastern philosophy" can mean so many things) and find out what kind of thought process is involved with that. Also, try to enrich your sober life with those things (meditation, reading books, etc.) and you're sure to think about it during a trip.

Or if you think you're ready, take a higher dose (you know, >5gr in a pitch black room)
