Getting to the point ...
I am in looking for a rare (very old) book but there's no hits with google or amazon.com so I'm asking you - if I want to find a book, is there an online resource (or plural) to which I should refer? I realize I could go to a library and ask, but more than likely all they'll say is "We don't have it".

FWIW, the book, if I recall correctly, is called "The Encyclopedia of Mayhem"

Thanks.

Reed-

I couldn't find anything either.

If you know the author as well, you might try contacting the Library of Congress to get an ISBN number.
It may also just be something extremely limited in print.

Good luck!

:D

If you know any university students that go to a big school with a massive library, they should have an online search of books.

Naw, if it was really that serious I'd have followed up on it years ago. Basically it documents murderers, cults, and crazy people from throughout time - but not your Ghengis Khan type stuff, more like your Dahmers and such...though they had less noteriety back then. I saw a show and it said the episode was based on a real case from that book...so I always wondered what more could be in the book. LOL, guess I'll never know.

c'est le vie
or should I say c'est le MAYHEM!!! muahahahaHAHAHAHA!!!!

*sigh*

If anybody does come up with some idears, I'd still appreciate it. But please, nobody put yourself out for a whim on my part. Thanks.

I've used Alibris (www.alibris.com) many times and I have nothing but good things to say about them. It's hard to come up with a book that you CAN'T find there. That being said, I was unable to find "The Encyclopedia of Mayhem". I searched under nonfiction for "Mayhem" and found a few that look similar (to me anyway) to the book you're looking for. Check out "Murder, Mayhem and Mystery: An album of American Crime" by Alan Hynd. If nothing else, it looks like it could be an interesting read.
