A member in my outpatient group had a seizure today. I thought she was going to die and it was downright terrifying. I'm still freaking out as I type this so my thoughts may be scattered. I noticed as she was talking during group that her hands and legs were shaking and jerking and she was also stuttering. I thought it was just high anxiety, but when the seizure happened it made me think of the two seizures I had during benzo withdrawal. I had the same exact symptoms hours and minutes prior to seizing. She said she was recovering from percs and crack and hadn't used in over a week. She also said she recently lost her job and broke up with her boyfriend and was stressed out. I'd like to hear what you guys think. Has anyone had a similar experience? I withdrew from benzos several times but at the time of my seizures I was also going through extremely stressful situations. Maybe the extreme stress coupled with the benzo wd can make one more susceptible to seizures? Btw she finally came to and was taken to the hospital.

There is actually something called stress seizures--my sister-in-law was having these small seizures and no one could figure out why. They finally diagnosed this.

They can be very dangerous because they can happen while you are driving or doing something routine but in a dangerous situation to lose consciousness.
