A little dramatic on the subject field lol, I was not expecting this. If you're having stomach pains and such please go see a doctor. Otherwise this is a very common side effect of opiates. There are many different types of laxatives and stool softeners you can look in to. Also you could stop taking the hydrocodone and your muscles should resume normal activity within a couple days. A lot of the laxatives take a couple days before you notice any effects. While taking opiates I've noticed there is a period shortly after I take them where my bowels return to normal function for some reason, just have to make sure I take advantage of it or the whole process starts over.

Edit: two weeks is obviously a long time and you should consider that you may have impacted stool which can cause further problems. A doctor visit is def. The best suggestion just to get everything checked out and get back on track.

-First off, we don't use "SWIM" here, we know its you. "SWIM" and the like only makes your posts hard to read, will cause many Bluelighters to flat out ignore your post, and SWIM doesn't do anything to legally protect you.

Skip your opiate dose for as long as possible. Eat some food that has high fiber content and take a laxative. If that doesn't work, you should probably see a doctor sooner rather than later. GI tract blockage is a pretty serious problem...but people have gone much longer than three days without taking a shit without dying.

If skipping your dose + a laxative doesn't work, its time to see a doctor. Give the laxative a bit more time.

In regards to tips to keeping yourself regular, try these:

-Increase your fiber and water intake
-Consider a daily magnesium supplement (I take 500mg - 2000mg magnesium oxide daily and it helps a lot)
-Exercise, really, it makes a big difference. When your body is moving, it helps your bowels move.
-If you're dosing in the morning, try this trick:
1) Drink tons of water before going to bed.
2) Wake up and skip your usual opiate/opioid dose
3) Drink a big cup of coffee, maybe two.
4) Drink more water.
5) Wait for the coffee to work its magic.
6) Drink even more water.

and.... 7) Be close to the toilet.

But seriously, if none of those things work, seek medical attention.

^ This. Three days isn't really much, mate. Take high fiber content food (brown bread) too ;)

Hi 6thdose.

The posters so far in this thread have given you really solid advice. My mom is on methadone, and she is supposed to take laxatives prescribed at the same time as her methadone. I've been with her to the pain clinic many times.

Last year she came down to my house for a week and was very ill when I took her home. I stayed with her and finally had to force her to go to the emergency room. She looked like death, truly, and was in so much pain I know she would have welcomed death at that time.

She was constipated. She got sick from not taking her laxatives and was in the hospital for five days. The first four days were enemas. Even if a person liked ass play, several high enemas a day just sucks for anybody.

If your bowels are full but you can't empty them because the opioids in your system have blocked you up, you do need medical attention. You are a prime candidate for same serious illness through which my mom struggled.

When I was on various opiate/opioids for extended periods of time, I always had a big container of Metamucil. Its not as bad as it used to be, they now make it so it isn't as gross to take. It helps. The coffee tip that neighborhood threat suggested is probably your best bet for a fast evacuation. For me, the metamucil, hot coffee, and a cigarette or two in the morning would get me "going" without fail. If you are impacted or have gone TOO long without evacuating, some castor oil from your local drug store can do wonders as well - sure it tastes like hell but it might keep you from having to go to the hospital .

I'd also like to point out that once you are fully plugged up, impacted, and nothing is getting by, taking loads of fiber isn't going to help and will actually compound the problem. You need lubricants (oral or enema) to get things broken up and slippery, and stimulants (or withdrawal) to actually get the bowels moving.

this. And to add to that if you do up your fiber intake you must also up your water intake or you will be in a world of hurt. My advice for this time is go to the pharmacy and get some clearlax its OTC powder that you mix in a drink doesnt have a taste at all and will have you shitting your brains out in 12 hours stuff is a miracle.
