So, I am in a program for drug addiction, and it is a secondary treatment, meaning you have to have gone through a primary first (usually wilderness type programs).

My friend, who I have been living with for 3 months, is severely depressed. He seems to get into these manic episodes where he doesnt sleep and all he does it listens to nine inch nails and crys, and he cant help it.

Last night I woke up at 3 am and heard footsteps in our appartment. I found him walking outside to go smoke a cig. So I followed him to have one with him. When I got outside, he was crying and told me to tell everyone to read the message on his computer. I WAS LIKE WTF? Dude what the fuck are you talking about?

I talked him out of it and tried to get him to think about happy things, even though he was just awfully depressed. I told him to sleep it off and not to make any rash decisions. He tried to have me keep his ciggarettes, insisting that he would not be needing them anymore. I MADE him take his cigs back, and stayed awake with him tilll he went to bed. We sleep in the same room, I just didnt want to go to bed with him still awake.

SOOOOOOOOO,

This morning, I told my other friend who is also a roomate of the appartment about the fiasco. He said we cannot let this go on, and we need to tell somebody for his safety. I don't know what to do. I was talking to him last night and he said he would rather be dead than on medicines in an insane assylum, but I do not want to feel like I knew something about his wantings to harm himself if he really does take his life.

What should I do? arggggg

my friend did the same thing except with anti government bands. he died last year of coke and mephedrone. be there for him. he probably doesn't think you, or anyone for that matter is, so prove him wrong

good luck

Did you read the message on his computer ? maybe u could help talk about specific things hes concerned with at the moment.

is your friend also in this secondary program?
if nothing looks better soon talk about professional help

You sound like an awesome friend. If this continues then elevate it to the professionals. He may be mad as hell at you but he will be alive.

Do elevate to someone running the place, I'll tell you the reason I think you should do so immediately. Someone supervising the place you two are at thinks his meds and therapy are working adequately. Clearly they are not. Either he is giving weak feedback as to his problems or he is not being listened to very well. Either way your letting some supervising people in on what you know will hopefully help correct this situation, ideally getting him to a safer place, better meds, and effective therapy. Standing by isn't really much of an option unless you know standing by for a little bit is somehow likely to remedy these problems.
