Scan of the Brain On LSD Can't Get Funding, So Scientists Are Using Crowdfunding

so this is in Britain.. apparently it's working and they've raised 50k euros or so. here's the source

It sounds like a good thing and maybe/probably it is.
But know that The Beckley Foundation run by Amanada Feilding, which is sponsoring the studies, also advocates trepanation (the drilling of holes in the skull for consciousness expansion)
and Amanada twice ran for Parliament on the "Trepanation for the National Health" platform.

Can the serious science maintain its credibility despite being compromised in the eyes of the establishment by its close association with what appears to be the lunatic fringe?

It's already in the lunatic fringe. Sponsors for psychedelic research are so sparse, I think they just need to take funding from wherever they can, really.

indeed and agreed; regardless of the reputation though; this will be a major breakthrough in regards to the knowlege of the human brain and the science of healing with psychedelics; who knows what it could uncover!

If I could I would?.....if u have a computer u can afford 1$....on second thought if its backed by Amanda fielding......dont bother wasting a cent on it....the research is invalid and will never be published in a de c.f. ent journal

There are several very legit scientists out there researching psychedelics and publishing in legit journals and funded by the government or legit sources. Dont believe the stoners on here saying real science isn't being done

Yer I'm with this guy ^ although atleast this will get it out to the general population and help change their opinions of drugs like this so governments will be more inclined to push more money into actually research. Might also start to change the stigma attached to lsd and phycahdelic drugs.

Are you people aware of who Professor David Nutt actually is? Maybe if you were you'd have a completely different view. The reason he is working with the Beckley Foundation is because they are the only rich organisation, or person, who would agree to fund the research. They provide the funding, and he does the research.

Sorry, but this is a ridiculous comment.

Who is funding the campaign is totally irrelevant. Seeing as it's also using crowdfunding, absolutely anyone could be funding it, with god knows what secrets in their past, and we wouldn't know any better.

The important aspect is that the research is being conducted by Professor David Nutt. Professor David Nutt was a high ranking UK government advisor who served on the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. He was sacked from his position after having spoken out against both drug legislation and the widely misrepresented dangers of MDMA. The government tried to silence him, but he continued to speak out and consequently lost his job.

David Nutt is well respected and deservingly so. He sacrificed a comfortable career in parliament because he considered the truth to be more important.

His work has already completed the first ever brain imaging study on MDMA.

And he's doing the first UK based psychedelic research in about 40 years.

Think of him as like a small UK based MAPS, still in its infancy. That's him.

Funding is sparse, but it's important to get this research out there.

P.s, his previous research has already been published in the Biological Psychiatry Journal.

Yes, such as Professor David Nutt. Although obviously he won't be receiving any funding from the UK government, due to the fact that they sacked him.

This isn't just some kooky organisation conducting kooky research. The research is conducted by David Nutt. He's well connected, well respected and he's got brilliant credentials.
