I think you might be reading into this too much Fjones. Maybe you should take a step back from the computer and calm down for a bit?

Not so extreme? One of the responses made an analogy to feeling like a prostitute.
I make no apologies for having "extreme" opinions. I see little value in being wishy washy and indecisive.
I am incorrigible about this topic because I find it hypocritical and irritating that women want equal rights when it suits them but then want the man to "be the man" and pay for dinner.
If men and women are equal why should the man pay for the woman's dinner?
If women want them an to pay for dinner, then they should shut up about equal pay in the workplace.
(note for clarity -- I do NOT think women should shut up about equal pay in the workplace. I thnk they should get equal pay).
Well, back on topic...
I keep getting emails to my company (www.manaoaina.com) saying "I can't afford your service, but I love what you're doing!" Basically just a waste of my time.. I feel like I should send back an email saying something like "Thanks for your encouragement" or some shit like that...idk what do you guys think?
Where I live everybody opens the door for everybody else. 99% of the time a thank you is given. That said I would never go off on someone who didn't say thank you. I'd assume that they were having an off day or had something else on their mind and forgot. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.
I generally believe people taking it upon themselves to 'teach' other people manners are totally doing it wrong. Your being rude is going to make an already rude person rude no more? Huh? I don't think the memory of someone yelling at them will make these people 'remember' to say thank you in the future. If anything they'll just think "what's his problem?" and most likely pay your yelling no heed. If I was around you when you said something like that I'd think you're a jerk. Just being honest.![]()
Actually, I run up behind them now when they fail to say thank you, slap them in the back of the head and run away. Seriously though, I think I gave you the wrong impression that I'm this guy who's out to teach people a lesson by yelling, "YOU'RE WELCOME!!!", to every person who doesn't say thank you. I've probably only done it a couple of times out of a combo of sheer aggravation and having a shitty day.
The two wrongs don't make a right approach is the wrong way to go, I agree.
If someone pays a compliment, I usually try to tell them something about how I came across whatever they're complimenting. I find "thank you" to be tough to transition from and can kill a conversation.
