As yall may remember I was asking you guys about what to expect with being on the 100mcg/hr Fent patch and when I saw him again tonight he told me he realized he F'ed up and should not have put me on 100 mcg's he meant to give that dosage to someone other then me, and he really wants me on 50 mcg's /hr so now he is waiting until this second box is done and then he is going to start reducing me down. In 2 weeks when this box of 100's is done he is reducing me down to 75mcg's/h for 5 patches then I think after that 5 patches he's going to 50.. My question is from what yall told me about the potency and the vial withdraws from it, should I expect a big notice in the drop from 100 to 75? He is giving me dilaudid to go with it, but I'm still a little worried about the drop. From your experience what should I expect?

Thanks!

It is a drop but hopefully if you have Dilaudid for breakthrough pain you should be able to manage with that - you might need quite a bit of the Dilaudid to start with but try to taper it down so you are comfortable on 75mcg/hr. If you're struggling, I'd go back and see your doctor. I'm sure he'll understand, seeing as he made the mistake in the first place! Good luck :)

what adjustment period you go through will be a lot quicker than with other opioids in me experience. fent is an extremely short acting one and along with the dilauded in assistance it should make things a lot more bearable. anything you will feel will be acutely lived. what effie said in other words.

i will answer your pm once i'm feeling straight edge;)

Thanks Effie and Disposition, he did make the note to me that he was going to try and taper me back down as slow as he could to cause the least amount of discomfort, and he is usually pretty good with keeping to his word that way. The only problem I foresee is not having enough dilaudid to carry me if need be, the good thing however, is he is ok with me going to the local ER for more dillies if need be since he's only down in this area once a week, when he actually gets there, and he was off last week which is why he wrote me for the 2 scripts 1 box x 5 each. And I really love the mylans I got, they work so much better then the Apotex I had originally gotten, no issues with adhesion, no rash from the matix / adhesive, and they absorbed in to my blood stream much quicker. Over all, I don't think I will ever use anything but the mylans again.

Not really something helpful to the question, but I do hope that your taper goes well. I'm a wimp lol. I freaked out when they ACCIDENTALLY prescribed me one less dose of Tramadols than I normally took. Thankfully I had a Dr.s appt shortly after this and got it all straightened out. But I'm getting off topic, so, good luck man.

No worries Doug, I don't mind when friends through in a few comments as long as it doesn't derail the entire, point of the thread :) I wouldn't consider this hijacking, so don't be afraid to pop in on my posts, although the mods, may feel differently :) I too am a wimp when it comes to this shit, but I have been in enormous pain for 2 years, so a few more days here and there won't kill me, and like they say, what doesn't kill you just makes you stronger :)

Like Effie said, I have the dilaudid to make it easier and based on what disposition said, since it's so short acting the transition should be pretty damn quick. If not my Pain MGT Dr said he was completely fine with me going to the ER to get more D's if Im having a hard time and I can't get tot see him and they are usually good for about 2-3 days worth extra. So it sounds like I should be ok, and I'm probably worrying more then I should.

On the note of "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger," that's actually not true in a way lol. Picture your nerves as trees, and the nerve endings as branches. As these nerve endings get damaged (branches get damaged, cut, yada, yada), those nerve endings split into more endings, and the process continues; thus, leaving you with a lot more nerve endings and...what else...DING DING DING! More nerves to feel pain, thus multiplying your pain even more. I need to go find this website that explains it really well. I'll edit this post when I find it.

Found it! lol
