Im intersted in any input that people have regarding getting the last scraps of heroin from used cottons/ cooking surfaces. Today and yesterday, I injected a few times and noticed that my used cooking surfaces with cotton filters had significant residue left. I understrand that most of this is just cut from the heroin. However, I noticed that some of the stuff is brown which tells me there is some heroin there. I used water to dilute all three of them and ended up with a shot that was a decent shade of brown. I injected it and seemed to get a pretty decent buzz. I should have saved it for the withdrawals, lol.

What I'm wondering is if I had taken that shot and just emptied it onto a clean surface (steralized upside down pop can) and left it overnight, would the water have dried out leaving only the heroin? The stuff I've been getting lately has been cut rather heavily. Nothing dangerous, probably talcalm powder or something.... its not water soluble so it doesnt go into my shots. Every shot I make leaves a larger then normal amount of white, sludgy, residue. I think, due to the large amount of cut in my stuff, that some of the heroin is getting caught up in the residue sludge. Is it a good idea to try and get the remaining heroin from all of these cooking surfaces? I've just cleaned out all of my remaining surfaces and injected the brownish water onto a fresh surface to leave overnight. Will this be safe to draw up and inject in about 8 hours?

It would have dried out fine, but heroin from left over filters is not suitable for injection because it may be contaminated with bacteria. Don't inject it - the longer it sits (especially in solution), the higher the chances some organism will gorw in it and make you very sick.

If you want to use the heroin I suggest plugging it (rectal administration) or snorting it in a squirt bottle. Don't inject it, it's not safe.

yeah that makes sense, thanks for the tip. Probly not even worth it anyways considering the samll amount residue thats there,

Talcum powder is very dangerous to inject.
I always saved a bunch of cottons making it actually worth doing and used an extra clean one to soak up any residue left in my cooker (all horrible HR by the way). If I saved about 5 cottons from decent shots, it made a nice little hold me over if I was sick. Course, there's always cotton fever(bacteria growing on the cottons) to worry about which sucks, but it usually only lasts about 2 hours. I found I got it in maybe 5-10% of all cotton shots. It feels like a really high fever with non stop shaking. However, it's scary as hell the first time you get it.

one form of cotton fever comes from foreign particulate matter entering your body; it doesn't like this and fights against it. the other is from bacterial growth from letting cottons sit around, saving them for when you're unwell, in a very unsterilised practice; bad practice. from my personal experience particulate contamination is the longer lasting, superseded version of a dirty hit.

Never a good idea as other have said specifically because of the chance for bacterial growth and also injecting garbage that was leftover in the cottons, BUT being really dope sick sucks, and as anyone will tell you, when you are really sick, that little bit of dope left in the filters start to become a pretty good looking option. i know i have done this tons of time, ive never gotten cotton fever thankfully, but im sure i would have at some point. try and avoid doing this for sure, but if you are going to do it, refilter the final shot and maybe apply a little heat. it wouldnt be enough to kill all of the bacteria i suppose, if you are really worried about it, you could always plug it. ive heard that it works. once again tho when you are used to IVing, nothing else really compares and you find yourself doing things that are not exactly in the spirit of harm reduction.

i am fully aware of the risks and would recomend this to anyone.....but i admit that i do cotton shots....pretty regularly actually. And i've never gotten cotton fever from it, but i have had cotton fever, terrible experiences, mostly why i wouldnt recomend a cotton shot to anyone

As others have noted and explained very well, saving used cottons to use for an injectable material at a later date is very dangerous and potentially harmful. Yes, most of us have done it (or still do it), but there are other better ways to accomplish the same general idea. Setting aside a tiny amount of Heroin from every bag/cap and making sure you rinse out your cottons with each use (meaning taking a seperate rig, filling it with 5-10 units of water, squirting on the cotton, mixing, sucking it up into the 1st rig with the shot)- this way you get everything out of the cotton on the first attempt and won't be tempted later on to try and suck them dry. But setting aside a tiny amount of dope to begin with is accomplishing the same task without the very high risk of bacterial infection, injecting foreign particulates into your circulatory system, etc. Anything unsterile that gets exposed to moisture and air is going to grow bacteria- this includes your used cottons, even after they've dried out.

However, I noticed that some of the stuff is brown which tells me there is some heroin there.

Diacetylmorphine (heroin) is bleach-white in it's crystalline (hydrochloride salt) state; dissolved in water it results in a clear solution. Just FYI. If your shot is brown, it has something other than diacetylmorphine hydrochloride in it.
