Save Fabric

What was that fetish club called in Vauxhall, the one situated underground. It had metal cages with dancers in them.

I always thought that was the type of club you guys describe.

Subversion it is!
Though I think it used to be called something different years ago but it's been going for ages.
If you think no drugs are consumed there you're naive.

Well if punters weren't such cheap bastards and filled their water bottles from the bathroom tap (even when clubs only run hot water) then they might have a say.
Water is free in every licensed bar in the UK. Or at least, refusing a punter a glass of water is grounds for revocation of a licence.

Not mixing alcohol with other substances sounds like good HR to me. Unfortunately for the club owners, alcohol is the only substance they are allowed to sell. And clubgoers who have only taken alcohol aren't even the most interesting ones, let alone the best-behaved.

I think that's part of what went wrong with the mainstream-ification of dance music; they tried to bring alcohol, the drug of the mainstream, into the mix, and it just didn't work out.

I also went to the last dance, what a great night. I used to love gods at the sanctuary and it was just like the old days :)
cant imagine going clubbing for a while again now, think I'm all clubbed out.

That's what really impressed me about that night - it was like nothing had changed in the 18 years since they started the weekly nights in Birmingham, same musics, same vibes... i thought it was fucking amazing.

And I'm sure in Australia 'Doofs' are better than going to clubs, but Australia hasn't got a 30 year old world famous club scene currently crumbling around them. And 85% of the money I spent at the bar at The Last Dance was on water.....

“London is now crammed full of 'trendy' restaurants, bars and soulless venues providing dreary events with no substance. People will become bored of that trend, yet they have never tired of this club.”

Nightclubs across London turned their music off at midnight for one minute as a silent protest against club closures.

It comes just weeks after Fabric, one of the biggest venues in the country, closed after its license was revoked.

Organisers say the silent protests were "to show what our world will look like if we continue to lose our our cultural spaces".

Koko, Bedroom Bar and Dalston Superstore were among the bars and clubs to take part.

If it weren't for the underground clubbing scene I would never ever have spent the years I've spent there living in London.

and yes I know this only means the illegal rave scene is already reviving thanks to all this.

Ah, Castlemorton Common. Not going there is definitely among my top ten Things To Be Regretted Forever.

Mind, I'm not even certain this generation have got it in them to put up a fight anymore. They're too used to obeying and conforming to what they think is expected of them. And us old'uns, we've fallen for it somehow, let ourselves get saddled with responsibilities and turned into our own parents without realising it. Of course, I want to be proved royally wrong on this .....

Bob Funkhouse: 'You're right in a way Julie that this generation haven't got the fight in them. Unfortunately it's largely because they have learned that their voices can't make a difference most of the time. Politicians, large corporations, those with power and money generally get what they want'

Sorry for wading in with my first post without saying hello first and not even posting on the original topic in hand.
After months of lurking & loving EADD but swearing I wasn't going to join as I'm supposed to be somewhere else, the mention of Castlemorton & UndertheBoa's pics (our paths may well have crossed somewhere) made me have to proclaim that I WAS THERE TOO!

I also wanted to point out in response to the comments about this generation, that a lot of young people I know who grew up around free parties and protests and free-thinking parents and a wealth of different influences and role models, have SO got that fight in them
The kids are alright!

Shit thought you knew Stee!! Pressure for Ibiza to "clean" up as well.

Buspersonsholiday nice to know a fellow old skooler is on board. What day did you make it down to Castlemorton?

For those that don't know we in the UK had the right to hold fairs on common land since medieval times. The establishment could nt destroy that constitutional law so they made a new one to effectively ban groups of people and music.

First day & one of first convoys on....I was very grumpy with a cold & a bitch in season (had to walk her through site on a lead with a big stick to beat off all the rampant dogs) Soon got better though....:)

I didn't know they shut SE1 club (cable) too.

I'm still beat myself around the head for not having bumped in to Anna Chapman who was partying there at the same time as I was.

Bumped for an update...

Fabric reopening after last-minute appeal hearing

London nightclub Fabric will reopen following its controversial closure earlier this year by Islington Council.

Judge Robin McPhee made the final decision after Fabric's management agreed with the council on a set of conditions under which the premises must run.

Those conditions - drawn from a 155-page “gold standard” for security put forward by Fabric in November - include clubbers under 19 not being allowed onto the premises, CCTV monitoring, ID scanners and a lifetime ban for anyone caught dealing or in possession of drugs.

The appeal was heard at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court’s where a judge passed the appeal. It is currently unclear when exactly the Charterhouse Street venue will open its doors.

...

Fabric's statement in full said:
We are hugely thankful to be able to confirm the news that we have won our licence back. We owe everything to our supporters. We really would not be here today without your unparalleled support and generosity. So many different people stepped up to put their voices to our cause, artists from all corners of the music community, fellow promoters who have put on huge events from us and clubbers from around the world who all united behind us. We’ve even seen people sporting their #savefabric T Shirts on the other side of this planet showing just how big this thing is.

So, thank you to all of you. Without the strength of your backing this would not have happened.

You saved Fabric.

We’ll be back with some news about #saveourculture and our next steps when we can.
