Anyone who takes Saphris (Asenapine) take LSD or any other psychadelics. I'm thinking it would fuck up the trip but I can't find anything on the internet about this new anti-psychotic so I figured I'd ask here to make sure. Thanks.

Damn that really sucks. I really need a good LSD trip to combat my increasing problem of alcoholism. I think it's worth it to stop the meds for a week.

Well it is an antagonist at both 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors, indicating that it blocks psychedelic action. Even more than recommending against mixing such medication with psychedelics, I would say that the reason you were prescribed something like that in the first place should also be a very good reason why tripping is really not smart. I am not seeing off-label uses for it other than things that don't mix well with psychedelics, like PTSD. That may benefit from a trip perhaps but I think it is very tricky and you would need guidance for that. Just talking theoretically here, I assume you are not getting it off-label?

Anyway like I said: don't take psychedelics.

edit: please realize the risk you would be taking discontinuing meds like this: earlier symptoms very well may not be suppressed anymore and taking a psychedelic would be a way to aggravate them more. Why don't you seek help for the alcoholism in a more traditional way? A trip is really not a reliable cure...

I don't think psychedelic self-medication to combat alcoholism is a particularly wise route to for you to take, considering you have a condition which justifies the use of something as heavy as asenapine. Also, the way you think this is so casually possible makes me think that you have done similar before, and that you're back in this position now shows that it wasn't a decent long term solution.

I would encourage you to find other ways of dealing with this. It's generally not a good idea to deviate from your prescribed medical regimen.
