SAM-e and MDMA - Definetely worth a shot.

Wow it's been a while since I've posted on here! Anyway, here goes nothing.

I have always had a minor anxiety/depression problem, have been on and off SSRI medication, and decided due to the sexual side effects I was experiencing (going soft while having sex; are you kidding me?) that I would discontinue the treatment. So, I have been researching/experimenting with natural supplements to aid in alleviating my symptoms. Here in lies my discovery that I hope will work for all of you as well as it did for me!

I had read mixed results about a supplement labelled SAM-e, which seemed to me like it had some limited potential to it; Therefore, I decided to "buy" (fuck you walmart, I have my reasons :|) 30 enterically coated tablets.

Now a while back, I had started a thread attacking 5-HTP as a legitimate supplement, claiming that I believed the majority of its effects were placebo (which I still believe they are). However, I do believe that some small percentage of the stuff (I believe I read ~2%?) is converted to serotonin in the brain. So I decided, why the hell not, I'm going to begin a regiment of stacking 5-HTP with SAM-e, seeing as both seemed to produce some mild mood lift.

I was dosing 400mg SAM-e each morning on an empty stomach, with about 200mg of 5-HTP, and almost instantly noticed that I felt a little dreamier and relaxed all day, much more tranquil, and happier in general.

I began to wonder whether or not this could potentiate MDMA, which had almost completely lost its effects for me at this point (due to past abuse I have posted about), and so after a week of taking these supplements, I ingested about 600mg of 5-HTP the day before I rolled, and then ~800mg of SAM-e the morning off, and completely avoided 5-HTP that day, as I had read on here that doing so could mellow my roll.

All I have to say is WOW. My hypothesis was 200% correct. I rolled cleaner, harder, and on ~150mg of MDMA, whereas before, it would have taken 3 times as much and I wouldn't have felt any empathy, and would have simply felt messed up, but in a somewhat good way. This preload seemed to kill my tolerance, and bring back my long lost magic very effectively.

Also, I tried this a second time a week later (I know you should wait longer, but this was for science; to see if I could roll hard again despite giving my brain time to replenish itself), and took ~400mg of SAM-e while peaking and also ~600mg of 5-HTP. This had no effect on my roll (no "serotonin syndrome", which I believe would be extremely hard to induce with these mild supplements), however, today (yes, this experiment took place last night on new years, which was amazing =D) I feel actually quite euphoric and relaxed as opposed to the usual cracked out feeling I get post-MDMA use.

So in summary, I believe that SAM-e is a very effective preload too enhance a roll, and can be taken while rolling to alleviate the blues that come the days later. I would like to try this again with SAM-e alone to isolate it from the 5-HTP, however I have tried similar experiments with 5-HTP alone, and noticed hardly any results if any... So I believe that the SAM-e is the wonder drug here. Who knows, maybe they work for this purpose best together? If anyone would like to further experiment (FOR SCIENCE! of course...) and post results, that would be amazing, as sadly (in a way), my newyears resolution is too rid myself of my drug using habits... but I'm excited to live drug-free for a while.

So yeah, I really think I'm on to something here... Let me know what you all think?

Cool post. I don't know how comfortable I feel taking SAMe, as it's a hormone that usually older people take when it starts to get low, but that's just me. Glad to hear you got some magic back though. 5-htp is nice. Gives me anxiety and breathing problems when I take too much though.

On a side note...careful stealing man. I used to do that stuff, and it turned into quite the habit. Only got me into trouble (all the free stuff just aint worth it).

Careful rolling a bunch too dood...even if it is for 'science' your brain is more important than an experiment. Just remember how mean MDMA can be....it won't show the worst side effects from abuse for at least a week or two.

Happy new year man.

Why do people insist on taking supplements that there is nothing but PURELY anecdotal evidence on improving an MDMA related experience? This is like the Emergen-C related crap people swear by for fighting colds EVEN after major medical and government groups make them remove these claims from packaging because it isn't true.

What gives you the best "roll"? try not fucking with your seratonin with a few weeks or months, and then take some MDMA. People need to stop mixing their stuff and learn that there is no easy way to make your body repair itself other than time. 5-HTP is bullshit too IMHO, along with the other stuff I see regurgitated on here so often. For a group of folks that try to be enlightened you sure take unproven word as gospel at times.

Also if you are on SSRIs there's a reason for that and you don't need to be fucking with another drug that messes with the same chemicals in your brain.

cryptix420:

I don't "steal" really at all except from Walmart, on the odd occasion. After working there for a corrupt store manager and watching a compelling documentary on their "ethics", I really don't find it too unethical. I know though... I probably shouldn't anyway :p

Also, thank you for your concern about my MDMA usage; I hadn't used in months prior to the first out of two times this month, and I usually respect my brain in terms of its precious neurotransmitters. I already learned the lesson on abusing M the hard way first year university; I now cannot smoke pot as I have acute anxiety attacks, but other then that, the depression and anxiety it had caused me for several months has more or less vanished. The brain is an extremely placid and resilient organ, thank god. Happy new years to you too man, hope you had a good one! :)

onceinawhile:

I'm simply trying to share my experience, so that others may have more information regarding the interactions of these substances - or simply the effects of SAM-e alone - on me and possibly others. Isn't that the entire purpose of harm reduction? Spreading information that may help others out?

I am aware that time (up to several months and possibly even years for some) is required for the brain to replenish it's serotonin levels and restore it's receptors to their original optimal state, however, there are ways that you can supplement the building blocks that the brain utilizes for this to speed the process. Also, I'm pretty sure there has to be more then merely anecdotal evidence to support claims of SAM-e and 5-HTP's efficacy; I posted above, I myself started a post a while ago attempting to debunk the miracle claims of 5-HTP users, and although I agree that it has minimal effect, it definitely makes somewhat of a difference, even if it is extremely marginal.

Finally, I decided the SSRI medication I was on was not for me (celexa) for personal reasons; mainly the multitude of side effects that are associated with SSRI's, leaving me with one very deprived girlfriend. Does that sound like something you want? So yes, I have decided to try supplements to aid my condition, after reading extensively on their effects and reports of their effectiveness on others who have tried using them. I'm not using both at the same time; moderation is the key to happiness, and that sure as hell applies to your serotonin levels as well. I know all about SSRI medication interactions. I don't blindly agree to taking anything until I feel educated on it's effects and feel comfortable with it.

I really don't see the need for negativity/profanity on boards like these. It takes away from the reputation of this website as being a goldmine of personal experience reports and drug use/abuse information. Knowledge is power, and the more the merrier.

Anyways, I don't want to start anything. I've just seen countless threads on using 5-HTP as a preloading supplement and recovery aid, and thought that my recent experience with SAM-e was worth sharing. I'm not completely disagreeing with you either man; the placebo effect is very misleading, and because of this, anecdotal evidence does lack a lot of validity... but due to MDMA's legal status, I don't see anyone conducting any controlled medical experiments to test claims such as these? So it's really all we have for the most part (along with scientific fact/theory on the mechanisms of action of each substance alone, and speculation based on logical reasoning of their potential interactions).

So yeah, whether we share beliefs/morals/whatever, happy new years to you too dude :)

If anyone else wants to contribute to this discussion that would be cool? Particularly those who have abused in the past and have lost their magic as well maybe? 1:55am. Peace out!
