Someone brought this up on one of the other forums. Turns out some DJ's used it on the air, nothing happened, and the DEA is interested.

DEA Assistant Special Agent In Charge Tim Magee

"The DEA looks at Salvia as a substance that's placed on our items to watch list. And it is a dangerous substance. [Yeah, it is dangerous because we said so even though limited studies have been done and no one has been hurt by it.] It does have hallucinogenic properties and is extremely dangerous to the user. [Again, it is dangerous] It's already outlawed in several countries throughout the world and several communities as well." [I'm sure those were well informed outlawings based on science]

I asked him what he thought about the fact that it didn't do anything to the guy who smoked it.

"Any drug reacts in a different way to different people. That's number one. And number two: with what happened on the radio station today.. I think the media whether it be the print, or video or sound have a journalistic responsibility to the public to use common sense. I don't really see what happened today on the radio as using common sense. I wonder how many young people will go out and smoke [it] just to see if they can match what happened today on the radio station. I find it ridiculous and quite simply very irresponsible. Any substance right now that is illegal was legal at one time and as society determines what is good for you and what is bad for you... these laws take time to get caught up. [What place does society have to figure out what's good and bad for ME, fucking ME, if it doesn't hurt anyone?] I think it's very important for them to understand that. Even thought it is legal right now does not mean it is good for you and it can still be very dangerous. [Is he talking about alcohol of salvia? Fuck off.]"

My comments are bolded above, if you couldn't tell.

Stupidity and hypocrisy drive me crazy, and they are both on full display in this story. Stock up boys, stock up...

already banned in one state, it's a matter of time before national prohibition
im still pissed off at their ban of ghb, a nontoxic alternative to alcohol

I dunno man.....its pretty easy to OD on that shit....I know the 2 times ive ever tried it, i was vomiting pretty freakin bad....

However, if used very carefully, it can be an excellent sleep aid. I would never use it recreationally again.:\

As for Salvia though.....thats fucking BS

I have been an extensive medicinal and recreational user (not prescribed) of GHB for a couple of years, it is VERY safe when used sensibly, in correct doses for the individual and not consumed with other depressants.

Very nontoxic.

the main reason it's so hard to OD on is because A. people dont know that about the drug and B. people dont know their doses, both of which are natural results of illegalization

Wow, yet another example of why big government is fucking stupid. Way to go Democrats, this is your fault!

Reminds me of the FDA. They are not doing their job, they are carrying out their personal agendas.

^cr you are fucking nuts lol
im not sure why you say "its the dems fault"
its clearly a bipartisan issue, drugs

furthermore, conservatives are hte ones more closely aligned with the religious right, with the good of the whole mentality, and legislating morals

what fucking universe are you IN? oh i know. the universe where all of hte democrats are giant evil bug monsters in disguise out to fuck humans up. seriously, everything is a partisan issue with you

p.s. if you support legalization or decrim, you have a "liberal" perspective on drug policy..

^^ I would also credit the democrats for failing to stand up to the established (highly-socially-conservative) national drug policy. Simply put, they are, on the whole, inarticulate and uninspiring cowards who are just as interested in polls and maintaining their political influence as Republicans are, granted they are also, on the whole, significantly less evil.
