Salvia is a condiment ? wtf?

I was in brazil a while ago and I was visiting my mom. In her kitchen she has a condiment named Salvia. It was a bunch of dried light green stem like leaves (?). Is this salvia divinorum, and could I have smoked it? Obviously I didn't it because i have a strong feeling that Im asking another stupid question, but I've never heard of salvia as a condiment?
Fill me in guys.
 
There are many plants in the genus Salvia. The stuff your mom had was definitely NOT Salvia divinorum.
Kids: don't smoke anything found on the spice rack.
