5-6 years ago, when Salvia first came to my attention, I was a little less cautious and tended not to research drugs that I used. Maturity has helped a lot and now I make sure I know exactly what to expect from each new chemical, doses etc...

So, when I first heard about it, all I got told was that it was a legal plant that makes you hallucinate. Good enough for me. But obviously, not reading anything about it, I just bought regular dried leaf, which on hindsight was probably a good thing. After smoking a large quantity as a spliff and nearly coughing my guts up from what seemed very harsh smoke, I felt absolutely nothing and wrote the stuff off as a dud as many legal highs were at the time.

I have never had much experience with hallucinogenics and it is an area that I am getting more interested in as I get older. Opening my mind to new ways of thinking and new ways of seeing the world is sounding more and more attractive.

Since my first "experience" I have done a LOT of research about Salvia, at least a couple of hours on multiple occasions of reading trip reports, dosage recommendations, proper administration etc.. and decided to buy a small quantity of 10x extract and a bong which I have never owned as I've never been that into weed.

I had it sitting around for 2-3 months until I felt the time was right to give this interesting plant a try. I got myself comfortable and loaded up a bowl. I filled the bong with smoke and then inhaled and held the smoke for as long as I could, taking the whole amount in one lung full.

I exhaled and waited for the (hopefully mild) experience to start. Nothing seemed to happen, I was sat down but then I felt myself being pushed from behind. I was in a crowd of people being forced with the flow of them. I tried to resist and could feel them pushing harder (I assume this must have been me leaning back into my chair) My eyes hit my computer screen and a hint of sanity returned. I realised that the drug had indeed started to work. There was no smooth come up, it was like a switch had been flicked in my mind. One second I was fine and then in the blink of an eye I was smack bang in the middle of my Salvia trip.

Then, I realised, I had absolutely no idea where I was (in my living room). I looked around and nothing looked familiar. The TV was on, and the people on it seemed to be commenting on me. Laughing when I moved, commenting on things that I was doing.

I had a very heavy body feeling, like I was being pulled to the ground. People were in the room with me even though they wasn't. I felt as if I was in a waiting room. Waiting for something to happen along with loads of strangers doing the same. Gradually over 5 or so minutes, the effects calmed down and eventually I was aware of where I was and things made sense again.

For a first experience, I was very pleased. I wouldn't call it recreational, but I think that it has some very real potential for mind exploration. The experience was in no way unpleasant although at times it was rather confusing.

I think that the next time I try it, I'll try in a dark quiet room and lay down and see what comes from the experience and see if I can get something more meaningful out of it.

I would say that it is something to be very cautious about. Going from totally straight minded to being totally confused happened in as little as a few seconds. At times, I even questioned if I had taken a drug or not. I couldn't quite remember and I could see how at times, that may make the experience a little uneasy especially if the trip isn't going in a pleasant direction.

I am now looking forward to having further (responsible) experiences with Salvia and other hallucinogens.

Thank you for reading.
