Its an audio interview, so nothing to read really.

Its worth listening to because of the great awkward tension between the gay-lisp'n NPR interviewer and Andy, the basement shaman who talks about salvia divinorum and cognitive freedom.

There are a couple really great moments, like when the shaman declares "A lot of people who smoke salvia suddenly realize they need counseling, when they never would have thought that otherwise" He is talking about remembering past traumas or something but the host just doesn't get it.

why do they always interview the most extreme people. Thats like getting an alcohalic to defend alcohal.

^ Exactly. Plus someone who smokes salvia regularly has gotta be fried, or just stupid. Is anyone really gonna care when that shit goes illegal?

^^^I certainly dont give a shit if Salvia becomes illegal on a national level. I never found it anywhere near as enjoyable as everyday psychedelics like Mushrooms,LSD or Mescaline

Even if you don't care for Salvia, I should hope that it matters that the public still perpetuates the drug war like this.

fuck the oppressors

i can grow salvia splendens but not salvia divinorum.

they are going to ban lettuce next.

What the hell makes you think anyone who smokes salvia regularly must be fried? Do you have any evidence whatsoever that salvia causes any sort of damage?

So, you think criminalizing a plant is fine just because you don't like it? Did it occur to you that some people find salvia's effects interesting or useful?

I happen to like it. I have especially enjoyed smoking salvia extract while on another psychedelic. It can greatly intensify the trip. It can be as powerful as smoked dmt/5-meo-dmt according to some, though I have never broken through to that level.

I'll have to buy a few plants. It is just a matter of time before it is banned nationwide.

oWnEDDDDDDD

Thanks T*D I feel the exact same way. I love smoking salvia and I don't consider myself fried or stupid. I find it hard to believe that people would just stand around and say "whatever, I don't like it." It doesn't matter what you like, its about having the freedom to do what we wish with our own bodies. I personally don't find meth to be the best thing since sliced bread but I would still argue for its legalization on at least the basis of personal freedom, which should be enough. But thats fine, if you want to just stand around while freedom is being taken away and say "I don't give a shit" than that is your right.

just because it made you shit your pants doesnt mean you know how it effects everyone else

speaking of fried...

I use salvia for religious purposes. I'll be damned if they take it away from me.

^^^^No that is not what I meant at all. If it was up to me EVERY drug on this planet would be legal but we know the fucking DEA will never let that happen. That being said I would rather the DEA stormtroopers and crazed government officials focus there wrath on Salvia rather than lets say MUSHROOM SPORES or Mimosa hostilis Rootbark.......

Haha, exactly. I love fucking with diehard psychedelic users, its so easy. Insult any drug, be it ether, nutmeg, or datura and you'll get these people desperately defending them (yes I know those aren't traditional "psychedelics", but either is salvia). Then you get the "Oh I've smoked pot everyday for the past 20 years, done 1000 hits of acid, DXM every weekend, E all the time, Sally during lunch break, and some K right before bed every other day. Look at me, I'm just fine, prove my brain is 'fried'"! Of course no studies like that have been done, all I have is common sense, personal experience and a stupid anecdote. A friend of mine who loves pot and salvia now thinks he can read the future and move stuff via telekinesis. He also thinks everything is a conspiracy theory. If that isn't some sort of brain damage I don't know what is. Yes, a very insignificant and stupid example, but I'm sure you guys know your own examples of burnouts so I need not go further.

Salvia is the lowest of the low guys, comon. As hatter said, mimosa/viridis/cappi/Virola are still legal, as are morning glory/hbwr, san pedro you can still order dried, and kratom is abundant. Each of those substances are like 100x more useful than Salvia, especially the first 3. Get a new habit. Regardless of what I think of the drug war, or whether salvia has "kicked my ass" I really don't care what happens to it. Its a pretty stupid kappa opioid agonist containing plant.

Many have found salvia every bit as useful and powerful as DMT. Maybe you've just never had a high enough dose to get such effects, or maybe its effects just don't suit you. Go read some of the trip reports on erowid. It has an unusually high percentage of trip reports in the Mystical Experiences section. I have found very few instances where salvia caused significant harm in those trip reports. When it did, it was only because the person did something stupid while high.

I think I'll base my opinion of salvia on the experiences of many, instead of one arrogant individual who insists that it is a useless substance just because he doesn't like it. It seems your mind it too closed for you to realize that many people find salvia useful or fun.

By the way, I have tried ayahuasca several times and it has not worked. Unlike you, I realize that others have found it to be very worthwhile even though it has done nothing for me yet.

Its not about the substance per se, its about the freedom. It is an insult to our freedom.

Yes, my mind is closed to that stuff. Of the 8 people I know who have tried it, only the one dude I mentioned before actually liked it enough to continually repeat the experience. Nobody came close to advocating the drug to others. So yes my mind is closed to this one. You know what they say, open your mind too much and your brain falls out.

As to the high amount of "mystical" trip reports, I just read quite a few and they certainly didn't sound mystical. Whoever categorized these seems to be EXTREMELY lenient. I say this because none of the reports emphasized how it was life-changing. Every mystical report I just read basically just relayed what happened, and then offered some clever closing line. None of them reflected or got into philosophy and integration curiously seemed non-existent. If its mystical you're gonna be integrating for like a month or more, right? So what, the effects were intense. Big deal. This is your brain on drugs.

So you're saying if they banned damania or Wild Dagga, you would be just as offended...? No you wouldn't, because those don't get you high.

^ Exaclty what Ham said. I would be more offended because then someone is taking away your freedom for no reason at all, not even a perceived threat!
