salads plus..?? (can Maccas do healthy??)

I tried that chicken turn over roll up thing the other day, the bread was farrrr to thick but the chicken actually tasted half decent

another country that had salads long before australia was canada.
i had a caesar salad there back in 1990. it wasn't too bad. was kinda fresh but i have never eaten any more.
personally i try to avoid mcdonalds. but sometimes your just too drunk to realise.
i don't know how long the health food thing for them will last. personally i would rather go to a good deli and get a salad sandwich.

75 cents for an apple? What a crock
I'd rather buy it from a green groccer and help someone who owns a small business. Out of curiosity does the apple come in it's own styrophone box?

From a practical point of view, it will benefit a lot of people who are forced to eat McDonalds because of the convenience of their stores being everywhere and many times being the only 24-hour food available in certain places.

From a conceptual point of view, it's like Philip Morris selling health insurance.

I haven't eaten from a McDonalds/Hungry Jacks/KFC in about 9 or 10 years, until recently desperation saw me purchase the cheese and tomato toasty (and as I suspected it was crap!). I am a vegetarian, and none of these places has catered for vegos until recently - even the chips are prepared in animal fat/tallow. I also had ethical problems with Maccas. I understand they hire predominantly kids (who find the work dries up when they become an adult; they are anti-union; plus the fact that the food is promoted for kids, and is the only take away food many families can afford (so they end up eating crap).

that's pretty much my objection with maccas, and why i haven't eaten it in eight or nine months now. it's pretty clear that this is mcdonald's attempt to win back a large share of the market that's obviously being taken off them - people are (at least superficially, i honestly don't believe it's *actually* happening) becoming more health conscious, as witnessed by the huge growth of things like subway, health food/fruit stores and "boost" juices (and the rest) around australia and the rest of the world.

somewhat arrogantly, maccas seemed to think that everything would be alright for them, but they posted a loss last year (not sure if that's a first, but it's certainly irregular), so even though they're significantly late, they *had* to push into this market. of course, being the monolithic machine that it is, it *will* work. their store coverage is massive, and if people can get their health fix from maccas whilst still indulging in the occasional fries/cheeseburger, they're going to.

i still won't eat it :)

being Maccas it will taste like crap. So I will try to avoid Maccas new vege burger...

I'm yet to try the new vegeburger, but I was talking to an old friend on the weekend and she mentioned to me that they were being produced by Sanitarium, which to me means they cant be all bad. Infact I just did a quick search in google and found their publicity site..
Sanitarium - Vege Burger.

I was actually meaning to go in and speak to the manager at my local maccas and find out how they made them, ie whether they were cooked on the same grill as the meat.. but looking on the site I found this which is encouraging..

- The Vege Burger will be grilled separately to other McDonalds burgers on a sandwich press type grill.

and I'd still like to find out the exact content of the oil they cook the fries in. I've heard many different opinions. ;)

I eat very little off maccas menu nowdays but I think I might hafta go check out this vegeburger.

stace.

Oh and I believe part of the reson they did this big health thing is coz they got quite a bit of flack from the health associations due to their abundance of fatty food and no 'healthy alternatives'.

bang on!....

maccas might be able to drag in a few people that are vegetarian for health reasons, but for those of us doing it for ethical/environmental concerns they can forget about it.....

they couldn't resist using a vegetarian stereotype (a guy with dreads) in their advertising either 8)

^^ yeah exactly...thats why i don't support maccas (ethical and environmental reasons) i havent seen the add though but thats just typical pffftt

I think they're actually aiming more at the female, weight-concious yuppie - well that's the impression I got anyway.

The ones who're on the low-carb low-fat diets who won't accompany their boyfriend to maccas' because they'll get "tempted"... or the mums with kids who are watching their weight who can now get a quick meal for the whole family in the one place. I think they'd be silly to even attempt a shot at the organic/environmental culture.

Well I think their new look is very important... it reflects change and that's all it takes for most people to keep coming back. Personally even if the place became vegan i still wouldn't eat there. Why? Because in one day, Macas could get rid of world hunger with all the money they earn and they don't do shit (unless it's for publicity). Oh yeah and their food sucks ass and ronald mcdonald is a petiphile :P

Apologies if this has already been mentioned (like everyone else, I'm doing this on the dodgey at work and they are really reeeeally cracking down, so quick skims is all I get..:() but, I heard from an ex-employee, the lettuce lasts for 4 weeks...WTF!

Think of what would have to be in that stuff...it's prolly radioactive.

That said, I ambled on over to try the truly delish
berry crunch and chicken wrap ..and I will be back. :\

I tried the vegie burger today.. quizzed the girl about their cooking methods and she straight away said it was cooked on a separate grill to all the meat.. so in reality it *actually* is a vegetarian burger. I found that impressive in itself really.

The verdict: I really quite liked it. Definately a burger with a lot more substance than the others.. didnt leave me feeling empty and unsatisfied 30mins later.

I dont play into the anti-corporation stuff.. but I'm always happy to see them make an effort in the right direction.

stace.

Why don't Maccas just make what they already do better.

I mean would'nt it be better to make just burgers, and make them well, rather than add more gross pointless crap to the menu?

...oh no, I remember now -Drugs and TV have shortened our attention spans so we need "mooving menues" to keep us interested, burgers are so last century.

:)

Apples at maccas, are you serious?? 8)

I go to maccas to suck down a few grease ball burgers not to munch on a freakn appple, have they gone insane.

Formula 47 shortening: 92% selected beef fat, 8% cotton seed oil.

Oh, and the pre-shredded lettuce lasts for 14 days, as long as its still refrigerated in the unopened vacuum-sealed bag. Any vegetable packed that way will last ages :).

As soon as you take it out of the bag though, it's got a holding time of 2 hours. It always runs out before then though...
