Safety of purchasing GBL from Europe

As you probably know, GBL is a List 1 chemical due to its use in GHB.
A friend of mine ordered from the internet (site was listed and recommended (along with others) by a third party - on the internet) and it came to him in less than a week without a return address. Their was a
customs sticker (placed on by the shipper) stating it was a household solvent (I will not name what type - but it's a front of course). Thus, it appears to have made it through customs, unopened. But my friend
has become paranoid and feels that the government will come knocking on his door with a warrant. He feels they could trace the package from the internet or through the mail. I told him that since their was no return address, they shouldnt be able to
trace it as coming from a company selling the stuff.
I am not sure of through the internet though. The company used some kinda of pay service like paypal, which of course gets credit card info. However, I don't think the government has the manpower to look for every small purchase in cyber space, unless they can
just watch a specific sites.
Does the above seem safe to anyone? Have you heard of anyone getting caught this way? It seems this is the only way to get the stuff - Reliable European suppler.
I guess the real problem would be if they waited to search until after you made the stuff and they actually find GHB.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
 
Technically if they got a warrent they could probebly check with paypal of transaction record of your friend.... and they his adress so they ahve his name so they can defiantly find otu through paypal if paypal lets them look through their database.... your friend should just let u hold the gbl or somthing and get rid of all his drug paraphinalia
 
Oh my gosh you people are paranoid. They are not gonna come knocking on your door for one bottle of GBL.
Now, start importing gallons of the stuff and they may start watching you.

I forgot to add that the bottle was only 260ml, the smallest size they offered. But keep in mind, that this company knows what it is doing, meaning it is a front for those that really know what to do with the stuff. Of course if someone does get caught with the stuff, they could always plead ignorant and say they bought would they believed was a very expensive environmentally friendly solvent

SWIM used to get 1 gallon at a time once a week. With the amount of packages coming in, as long as it has a label of something else they usually let it go by. SWIM was doing that for about 4 months straight never got one package seized, but there are companies they become wise to that they will stop all packages coming in from said company.
 
You're friend is way to paranoid, to echoa that which others have said - they are NOT going to come after him...
BUT why not teach your friend a lesson in paranoia? Tell him you just read an article about how customs has a new program where by when they find GBL, they ship it as normal, then issue a warrant for 2 weeks later so they can get some actuall GHB ... tell him that the story said they will arrest ANYONE that doesnt have a legit use for the GBL and change them with CONSPIRACY TO MANUFACTURE with a mandatory minimum 4 years in jail...
The icing on the cake, would be when you call the sheriffs department and say that you hasve info about a drug lab... the loook on his face when the agents kick his door in would be priceless!

I found a good amount of info by sending a general e-mail to an address a friend gave me... I just requested info on Organic Solvents and was suprised at the answers and great info I received! The address was [email protected]
 
I just put my gbl in water at a 1:3 ratio will hydrolize gbl to ghb at a 78 percent conversion. The rest converts in your stomach anyways, and its still legal....
 
If you take Phreex's advice please make sure to take a picture!! I'd love to see it...
 
Uh, you're forgetting the NaOH you must add to hydrolyze the GBL. GBL+ Water = GBL + water. If it converted to GHB, no one would bother with the hydroxide.

I beg to differ, It does get hydrolized at 78 percent at a 1:3 ratio. What do you think happenes when you take gbl straight? Not the same conversion but very similar.
 
What I think happens is the liver metabolizes GBL to GHB.
I don't want to start a flame war. I have just never seen any information on GBL hydrolyzing in water to GHB.
