Safe to take 120mg DXM at night if I took Methadone (20ml) in the morning?

Just what the title says. I'm out of oxy, and took 20ml of Methadone this morning.

It's now almost 9pm, and I was thinking of dosing 120mg of DXM for withdrawal, as I'm feeling it creep up.

Is this safe?

Would benzos be a better choice?

I'm guessing some of the 'done has worn off, but I know it has a long half-life.

What's the dealiyo? Anybody know?
 
I'm not too experienced with using DXM for opioid withdrawal, but from what I have read and my experience that dose sounds too high.

Either way, personally I would much rather just take benzos and hope for some sleep. DXM makes me dysphoric itself at that dose level, and would also give me insomnia.

I wouldn't recommend going above 70mg using it to aid withdrawal.

Huh.... okay, cool. So 70mg DXM (and/or benzos.... say 30mg Oxazepam? It's all I have) would be okay to take, considering the Methadone?
 
The main risk is serotonin syndrome, but if 20ml means 20mg of methadone, then its probably not too big of a risk since methadone (racemic) doesn't interact strongly with the serotonin transporter at the doses. But some people seem more sensitive to serotonin toxicity than others so anomalous events do occur.

But the bigger picture is that the DXM won't help with the opioid withdrawal much at all. Every time I've tried it for the purpose it made me feel worse. 120mg will keep you up all night.

Thanks for the input. Tbh, I'm a month or so clean from DXM, where I've been taking on average 750mg per day, so I doubt If even feel 120mg.... but maybe I would, who knows?

I would advise to stay away from the DXM if it might tempt you to return to abusing it. Long term high dose DXM use leads to permanent serotonergic damage and psychosis. I know several people this has happened to. It's not a safe drug to abuse heavily/daily.

I hear ya. Thanks for the concern. I had actually been doing it daily since Dec. 2021.

I may just pop a couple benzos instead. Hoping it won't be too dangerous. Shouldn't be, I would think. I have, what.... like 12-15mg of Methadone still in my system at the moment? Not too much, is it?

Cool, thanks. Yeah, my tolerance to benzos is decent, I've been on them a while. I have been tapering lately, trying to bring it down, but still.

Anyhoo, I dropped approx. 30mg Oxazepam about 30min ago, so we'll see how that goes. I've had the same amount recently where I had way more milligrams of Oxy in my system than I do now of Methadone (I'm willing to bet).
 
Update: Oxazepam has kicked in somewhat, and I feel the w/d's have already subsided. Wow. Effective, had no idea.

Now... I just hope I wake up tomorrow.
