Rubidium chloride

RbCl has been used as an antidepressant in Europe under the trade name Rubinorm in doses ranging from 180 to 720 mg.[10][11][12] It increases dopamine and norepinephrine levels and has stimulating effects, hence it is useful for anergic and apathetic depressives.[10]

Does anybody know more about this very interresting "upper-salt"?
I'll probably get some soon and do some experiments with it. It sounds quite promising...

I don't like the idea of ingesting heavy metal salts.
It seems benign enough in small doses, and I'm sure it's been used before clinically, but I jst haven't heard very much on its efficacy. I would imagine you'd need blood monitoring like lithium.

Heavy metals are different from most drugs because they will accumulate (mostly in bones they are similar to Calcium). Most drugs get cleared and removed but heavy metals content in your body will increase with each dose.

Rubidium is going to be different from all other heavy metals (except cesium) because of it's presence in group 1 of the periodic table. Elements in this column tend to form few insoluble salts compared with other metal ions, which is why sodium is predominant in sea water but rare in ores. I would expect rubidium not to accumulate in the way which makes other heavy metals a concern.
