Hi peeps

So I've quit smoking weed ( this is day 15!) after 18 years and I seem to have a shitload of time on my hands.

Have been thinking of getting a rowing machine, have looked at the concept II.

What are your thoughts on a row machine as an exercise instrument?

Are they worth the price?

I'm fairly unfit and don't want to have to go to any health and fitness clubs, would much prefer to exercise in my own place.

If not a row machine what other suggestions do you have for fitness and exercise aka time killing that I can do at home as I have been getting these urges to exercise at odd times of the day as I do a lot of shift work and weed usually is the fix.

Not interested in a treadmill or exercise bike, find both exercises boring.

Like the idea that a row machine is both cardio and strength training.

Any suggestions are welcome, thanks guys

Training a single muscle group (in this case your back muscles) should be avoided. It will only lead to muscle imbalances.
You may get bored after a couple weeks of strength training and just decide to stop (like many of my friends).
I suggest starting with push ups and pull ups.
If you still wanna get machines, get a power rack with weights and a adjustable bench. You'll be able to train your whole body using this equipement.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll look into a power rack.

Do you have any recommendations as to which manufacturer etc?

Thanks for the links.

Tried that 7 minute workout. I don't think I will be needing to buy any equipment. I am stuffed.

cheers

I personally find that the rowing machine puts strain on your lower back and knees if used for an extended period. That along with the noise they make (not loud but its repetitive which bugs me.

Speed rope. Little is better than jump rope. Bring your knees up past your waist. Works whole body. Coordination, strength, intensity, cardio, and it's actually fun.

Just make sure you look up good form + jump with a mat underneath you.

if you live in an appropriate area this may be something you consider along those lines.. my father has one and loves it.. pretty much wore it out..
