never will understand why people dis Jax. There is plenty to do just gotta know the right people and it depends on your taste. Just wanted to make a statment. been here over 10 years and never really that bored at all.

I hafta say I agree. I haven't been in Jax quite 10 years, but I really don't think it's THAT bad. I've seen worse... MUCH worse.

You just have to learn to make the best of what's around you. And if you don't like it... quit yer bitchin or make something happen! =D

Wassup everyone!

I have decided to take the plunge and post my info for all of you to see. I just split with my girlfriend of 2 years, and in 2 weeks I am moving into my OWN place! Yes, I OWN it :)

Anywho, I live in Orlando, am going to UCF for computer science, and have next to NO friends! (that evil controlling bitch........)

Hit me up anytime on AIM: WilyCoder

Tampa's Electronica Scene...

I wanted to start a local discussion on the current state of Tampa Bay's EDM scene.

Back in 2002 the clubs were pumping commercial dance stuff from the likes of Ian van Dahl, Lasgo, DJ Encore and a lot of the tracks were being played during the day time on 93.3flz. Now I'm not a fan of commercial dance stuff (anymore) my tastes have matured very much since then. But NOW for like 1.5 years the clubs have been pumping out nothing but crappy and commercial Break Beat. I mean sometimes I hear some hard trance and hard house thrown in some sets but seriously the Tampa scene has really lost touch with the trance world and it's an itch that needs to be scratched if you ask me.

We need some real trance DJ's stepping up to the plate who will pump out the hot hot new tracks that are coming out of Germany, Sweden, UK, and Ibiza each year. I mean come on the house party has JUST started to play:

Paul van Dyk - Nothing But You (released: Mar. 24, 2003 )
Paul van Dyk - Time of Our Lives (released: Sep. 21, 2003)
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (released: January 6, 2003)
Andain - Beautiful Things (released: January 3, 2004)

Those last two were probably the MOST played and MOST popular vocal trance tracks of 2003, and they were released in Europe early-mid 2003. Doesn't any DJ over here pay attention to the scene where the music is getting generated from!? Why wait until early 2004 to grab music thats now OLD news half way across the world.

I dunno...the scene over here in Tampa is #1 Behind the times #2 Not eclectic and interesting enough and #3 Lacking quality!

DJ Santana is a good local DJ. He spins at Storman's Palace (ew, barf!) on Friday's and at Groovy Mule on Saturdays. He's been around a while and plays a wide variety of stuff: breakz, trance, progressive, hard trance, hard house...

His passion is trance and his recent mixes have been littered with the right kind of music that Tampa needs right now!

APRIL MIX < zip file btw
01 - Sarah McClachlan - Fallen (Gabriel & Dresden Anti-Gravity Mix)
02 - Delerium ft. Nerina Pallot - Truly (Signum Remix)
03 - Matt Darey & Marcella Woods - Voice Of An Angel (Full Vocal)
04 - Neo and Farina feat Tiff Lacey - The Eternal (Original Vocal Mix)
05 - iio - Smooth (Airbase Club Mix)
06 - Tekara feat. Xan - Wanna Be An Angel (Art of Trance vs. DBA Remix)
07 - Alphazone - Immortal (Alphazone Vocal Mix)
08 - Rio Klein - Fearless (Push Remix)
09 - NRC - Here Comes The Rain (Push Vocal Remix)
10 - Blue Amazon vs. Darren Tate - The Other Love
11 - Divine Inspiration - The Way (Svenson & Gielen remix)
12 - The Lost Brothers feat. G Tom Mac - Cry Little Sister (I Need You Now)

In general I think the Tampa scene needs to switch it up a little. Is anyone else getting board with the Tampa EDM scene recently?

tampa has been boring since painted puppy and stateside collective stopped doing shows on a regular basis. EDM isn't "the thing" anymore. People generally don't give a crap.

the best you'll probably get is hyde park cafe, when Three is spinning. IMO he's one of the most underrated progressive DJs in the world.

Bluelight Meetup

Subliminal is spinning at Lumonics in Fort Lauderdale Friday April 30th. And since there are a lot of posts of people wanting to meet up with other bluelighters in the area we should organize a meetup. Lumonics is a great place to meet people because it's more like a hang out then a club. What I mean is you can talk to people without having to scream over the music. They have lots of chill out space. Any body else interested??? PM me =D
