Rolf Harris at a show he did a couple of nights ago:

"It's not about weathering the storm, it's about learning how to dance in the rain".

Pretty impressive line to come out with when you've been suicidally depressed for 7 months after being dragged into some god-forsaken police station.

I dunno bhm, I think you can do quite a lot of things with suicidal depression - Spike Milligan wrote the last two series of the goons while he was suicidal.

ismene - im unfamiliar with spike's exact circumstances. i think its all subjective, semantics and what not. but it irks me and always has when people throw in suicidal to add weight to their depression. like multiple suicide attempts... for me, if you truly wish to kill yourself - you will do it. those that do are often incredibly secretive and efficient in completing the task. i myself have contemplated it in the past, totally devoid of emotion - purely logical.. even planned out the methodology (head first off the 13th floor balcony), but even then in the depths of anguish.. i never breathed a word to anyone. once youve been through supervised channels (healthcare, prison system etc) you learn to never breathe a word of suicidal intent, because the system then swings into action. in police custody, mention the s word & theyll keep the light on you all night, with ten min observations throughout

thus im wary of those who broadcast their suicidal intent. its the quiet ones you need to be wary of

Where did the 'suicidal' depression line come from, anyway? This thread is #1 in Google for "rolf" "suicidally" "depressed".

What colour? Mine's white, and one of the old proper transistor ones. None of that 555 integrated circuit bullshit.

Ray Davies wrote Preservation Acts 1&2, plus Soap Opera when suicidal too. Though maybe they were the inspiration for the attempt.

Still, great story:

"Hello," he said to the nurses. "My name is Ray Davies. I am the lead singer of the Kinks. I am dying." One of them then asked him for his autograph. "It was funny," insists Davies now, and laughs a lot to prove it. "It was even funny at the time. When you're that down, everything is funny." Against the advice of a doctor, he discharged himself from the hospital. "You're going to die if you leave," the doctor warned him.

Davies recalls leaving the hospital in the style of an old music-hall comedian, Jimmy Wheeler: "Ta-ta for now, folks. Aye-aye. That's your lot."

That same year, he spent Christmas Day going round and round on the Circle Line on the Underground, drinking cans of Kronenbourg.
