Rohypnol - Why the Bad Rap?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding, Rohypnol has been made unavailable in the U.S. due to it's usage as a "date rape" drug.


But....


Rohypnol is just a potent Benzodiazepine. Wouldn't a high dosage of Xanax (say 4-5mg) to a benzo virgin accomplish the same desired effect?

It would, but rohypnol doesn't have pharmaceutical companies PR departments to defend it's reputation.
 
Rohypnol was just a popular benzo used as a date-rape drug as you said. It quickly became a feared drug, and now it is unavailable. Other benzos would still do the job it did, but not everyone knows about drugs, and most are quite ignorant.
 
The reason it has a bad rep was basically because rapists just decided to use Rohypnol as their benzo of choice to put into drinks. It does have rather strong amnesiac qualities so it will put their prey to sleep easy. Some rapists get caught and they happen to have Rohypnol on them so it is now labeled the "date rape drug". It was also readily available. Now if these rapists decided to use temazepam, alprazolm or clonazepam, they would be labeled the "date rape drug" because all these potent benzodiazepines can just as easily knock someone out if mixed in someones drink.
 
The myth that flunitrazepam is a date rape drug continues to fester, it's just unbelieveable.

Investigations into its actual use as a date rape drug have contradicted popular belief. According to research conducted by Michael Robertson from the San Diego Medical Examiner's office and Dr. Mahmoud El Sohly of El Sohly Laboratories, test results indicated that flunitrazepam was only used in around 1% of reported date rapes according to Robertson and 0.33% according to urine lab tests done by El Sohly.

In fact, the benzodiazepines midazolam, clonazepam, and temazepam are the benzos most commonly detected in date rape cases (among benzos). Overall, alcohol remains to be the #1 date rape drug by far. GHB and ketamine are also common agents used.

Some anecdotal story made it into a news report and the term "date rape drug" was born. it makes for a great headline and it sells news. So the news media jumped on it and rohypnol was forever labeled.

Oh it's not inactive orally. I took an entire vial orally...I can't remember why, I think I was incredibly fucked up that I didn't want to take the time to cook it into powder...and I got so fucked up. Blacked out that night. I was found running to my house with my pants off. I couldn't get inside.
 
Ehhh... Constant joking about roofies and rape don't help either I suppose or the OTC "ruffles" which was supposed to be like roofies. Hahahhaa

Regardless.. I've had shit put in my drink twice.

First time everything was like a cartoon and really weird and funny.

Second time I was found asyphxiating on my own vomit and they had to pump my stomach on the ambulance. Not much fun but I was out fucking cold with ghb poisoning. What a shitty night.

Did you get raped? I mean, that was the purpose of putting drugs in your drinks right? Or were random idiots just wasting their good drugs for a laugh??? If that was the case they deserve to be punched in the face for being stupid.

When everything felt like a cartoon you took ketamine...or some sort of RC.
