I have been on opiates for a long time but am 'clean' bar the subutex, in fact this is the longest period of not using illicit opiates use I have ever managed in over a decade but I am suffering really bad with RLS which is terrible in the night and makes my sleep problems much worse. Anyway I found one way to make it possible to bare is to put tight straps and belts round my legs, other than the risk of being accused of a failed wanking experiment is this safe? I think there might be a possible blood clot risk but not sure. So is leaving yourself bound by the legs for 4-6 hours a night dangerous in anyway? Thanks in advance TrancePants.

Jeez man that sounds bad. I would suggest talking to a Dr about your RLS problem. I dunno if your homespun remedy is dangerous or not, it will depend just how tightly you are binding the straps, like it could affect your blood circulation and cause swelling of your veins and stuff, which doesnt sound like a good thing to be subjecting your body to for several hours at a time.

That makes sense but my doctors surgery really don't care for anyone with illicit drug use problems and they wont script me anything or even say much. They wont even fund any of the tests the psyciatrists asked them too so I have given up on the doctors. They do treat addicts like shite there, so much so that the local prescribing services had to employ their own doctor as the ones here are such cunts to anyone whom touches anything (other than their toxic money spinners) that people were being refused their scripts and being fucked around. I am sure if I had a double barrel surname, a pair of winkle pickers and a fancy hat -they would prob actually treat me.

Problem is everyone else had the same idea and nowhere close is taking anyone on now mate, I could look further afield but I struggle to get about at times so its not really a viable option sadly.

Oh god I laughsnorted at that.

I dunno how bad your RLS is (I am assuming pretty fucking bad given your plans) but I've been taking Magnesium for mine (gradual benzo withdrawal) which seems to help. Doc wouldn't give me owt else either.

Try taking more iron... that is one of the main causes... drink guiness... that has lots of iron... + the alchol might make it easier to sleep

I got RLS... but never in bed... only when I am sat down... working long hours with a physical job will stop RLS... you will be too tired to move haha

That doesnt sound like a particularly good idea to me Mr DarkyParky, too much risk of stopping the circulation. IMO, RLS is basically an excess of nervous energy shooting up and down your legs causing your nerves to scream in agony from overstimulation. I used to find it helped immensely to place one foot flat against my other thigh, this seemed to form a circuit where the energy could flow and cause much less discomfort. Changing legs periodically also seemed to make it more effective. Its probably got summat to do with chi, or something. Anyway, give it a go. Just tuck one foot into your groin and place it flat against your other thigh. The relief, though not absolute, is immediate and significant.

Take those straps off your legs then.

Fuck that was hysterically funny! =D

Why do you have trouble getting about Dark? If you could get more excercise, burn off more energy during the day, you might find the RLS eases a bit. & if you're still smoking herb, try to cut down during the day & smoke more at night. Maybe try to get pure Indica weed, rather than the usual hybrids. Lower intake of THC & higher CBD might also help ease RLS.

Best of luck man!

the guiness idea sounds good for the iron and help making you sleepy. i hear eating bananas due to the potassium (like 3 in the evening)--ive actually had some success with that. also, theres the well reknowned really hot baths before bed time which works. doesnt clonidine work too? cant imagine a dooc having any reservations prescribing that; if not, i.think meth/subby clinics give you it even if you aint on done. exercise diring the day (running, rowing machjnes, squats). if you have a ladyfriend, calf massages are amazing relief. if you cant get benzos, valerian root and melatonin from holland and barrats should help. stretching too. im sure theres more but im.strugfling now--ibe been through wds more times.than.i.can.remember and the rls.is one of the WORST symptoms. good.luck dude

Baclofen

There is no reason why a sympathetic GP would not prescribe this drug. It is perfectly safe at therapeutic doses, it has no abuse potential, is not addictive and is used in American drug detox for the treatment of RLS alongside traditional opiate replacement, benzodiazepines and clonidine as a fully integrated member of the drug cornucopia used in opiate withdrawal

Thanks for the input people, much appreciated. Each evening I shall try eating a couple of banana then having a Guiness followed by a hot bath then I will try the leg positioning thing -I will try anything as its driving me mad! Is chelted magnesium easy to come by? I will be trying that too. For those that asked about my mobility issues -its due to a 70mph bike crash in jeans which tore my legs apart and even after the op I have loads of metal fragments stuck in my knee, that mixed with fatigue and unpredictable psychosis makes getting about really hard but I do push to get out the house daily and at least go for a short walk. Now I know to take the straps off I maybe able to run -hooray!

Oh and I asked for baclofen and was told its not standard practise for psyciatrists to script it so its was a no. My local doctors are fully aware of the degree of my problems and they wont do/offer shit for anything apart from inhalers.

the guiness idea sounds good for the iron and help making you sleepy.

There's somewhere between none and fuck all iron in Guinness - tis but a myth and an old sales tactic that would never be allowed these days due to being... well.. an outright lie. It may well make you sleepy though and does taste nice <3

Hot baths, as mentioned, do help with RLS but beyond that I'm not too sure. Those w/d drugs - clonidine and lofexidine - are supposedly excellent for RLS but not sure if they would be okay to take on top of bupe. They're prescription only and do have a few issues - no abuse potential though so no reason a doc would refuse them afaik. Baclofen is probably technically abusable but feel free - you'd really have to work at it and is rarely prescribed. I was scripted it for back pain and it did sod all at any dose so never bothered to ask for it again.

If you're getting RLS consistently and have been sticking to your bupe script and never flirting with other opies I'd suggest you either have a genuine RLS problem which is in no way related to opi use or you are on too low a dose of bupe. In fact the later doesn't really make sense either cos you would have had time to adjust by now. Opiates do prevent RLS but mainly cos they cause it when you go without. In your situation it would seem to be being caused by something else entirely so I would speak to your GP about it and see another one if your own is not interested.
