Recently I've observed a drastic decrease of my eye-sight. I'm wondering if there is some causal relationship with the use of ritaline. It's very likely that my eyes got worse by a natural aging, but the drastic decrease of eye-sight in such a short period (and the use of ritaline last month) make me suspicious.

I'm not a regular user of ritaline and use it mainly for work-purposes. I don't use it longer than 30 days without a break for some weeks. The dose taken per day is 10-15mg (1 or 1.5 tablet) taken in doses of 5mg with a separation of 2-3 hours. I've stopped taking ritaline for 10 days now.

I would be pleased if someone is more knowledgeable about this. Preferably, it would be great if someone was able to find a scientific study or something, since this side-effect is extremely subjective and I don't want to draw the wrong conclusion. Most internet-sources only list temporarily side-effects (i.e. while under influence) but nothing about long-term effects (when not under influence). The answer to the question is probably similar for other amphetamine-like substances, so maybe somebody knows something about that.

Anyways, I would find it very unlikely that such low doses of ritaline would alter my brain chemistry permanently.

Could it be possible that methylphenidate causes eyes to be more sensitive to light and therefore you will able to see better when on it. I myself find my vision improved when using methylphenidate and need year old glasses when taking it instead my current ones. Therefore you might not have noticed the gradual degration of eyesight and think it as rapid detoriation.

I need to get new glasses every year without any specific reason. It just gets worse each year with 0.25 decrease each year.
