Ritalin or Dexamphetamine better??

^ I'm personally cool with it, as most people know what the PBS prices are ($34.20 for general scripts and $5.60 for concession this year), and when the cost of $34.20 it will vary from pharmacy to pharmacy anyway.

Can i ask you why you want info on seroquel? its a pretty horrible drug side effect wise. I wouldn't fuck with it unless you are Schizophrenia or bipolar. They dont like to script dexies to Schizophrenia or bipolar people either. Those drugs basically do the exact opposite of each.
TDs are no fun at all and they are permanent. Look into the side effects i mean google/wiki what each means.

I take low dose Seroquel for sleep. 25 to 100 mg as needed for sleep.

Low dose Seroquel is basically a really strong antihistamine - it's not an antipsychotic. So therefore you don't get those nasty side effects.

I reckon Seroquel is better than:

Diazepam/Valium
Temazepam
Stilnox
Stilnox CR
Phenergan
Doxylamine
Diphenhydramine
Mirtazapine

for sleep...

please, no seroquel. I've seen it cause way more damage than even our osutrageiously obscene benzo consumption.
You're referring to tardive dyskinesia? It seems to be the pits, yeah but that's from daily, high doses. I use quetiapine once a fortnight to counter dextroamphetamine crashes and am pretty confident I can keep that up indefinitely without turning spasmodic. :|

Which is better? Hard question to answer, for your purposes I'd think heavily in terms of duration and consider extended release options if anything.

Recreationally I find ritalin FARRRR superior to dex. And I've been prescribed rits for years now.

Study wise, I think ritalin can be to much fun, and find amphetamines to be better suited as I like to go on all night study benders.

Ritalin seems to have a smaller long term side effect profile and in my experience causes less dopamine down regulation than the 'phets.

I find ritalin to have a more intense effect on mood, but dex keeps you fair happy all day rather than a couple hours.

Dont be self medicating with caffine as that is likely to screw with your anxiety. The pseudo is also not the best idea.

If your pysche thinks either of these stims could help you, they will likely choose one that they believe has a lesser impact anxiety wise. If that happens to be ritalin, for your purposes I'd ask and push for the extended release variant (concerta) as I think ritalin IR is farrrrrrrrrrrrrr to addictive to hand out to someone un-experienced with prescription stims.

In my opinion (and 13 years experience with psychiatric medication) the best drugs are as follows:

Anti-Depressent: Cymbalta
Anti-Anxiety: Valium (Diazepam) - but VERY addictive
Anti-Psychotic: Paliperidone - but DESTROYS sex drive and ability
ADHD: Dexamphetamine (less side effects than Ritalin)

BUT i'd like to add that in my opinion almost all psychiatric medications are bandaid solutions and don't actually 'cure' you, just assist you to deal with symptoms by numbing you.

Cheers

I've been on Ritalin and Dex. and preferred the Dex. The Ritalin tended to make me anxious at standard doses (10 or 20mg twice a day), felt more 'high' and 'wired' if that's your thing.

Which one has the better effect on mood? Depends...when you first start, both will probably boost your mood slightly. This doesn't last though unless you keep upping the dosage, and if your doc knows what he's doing he'll increase dose very very slowly and assess thoroughly at each step with mental tests/heart rate/bp etc.

IMO it's a very poor idea to add either of these meds to what you're already taking...but I know you won't listen to this. Why not change up your anti-depressant? Or try cutting back on your clonaz. and add some councelling/CBT? Might sound ridiculous but exercise actually helps more than you'd expect. I found exercise more effective than anti-d's and benzos.

Currently I'm on the combo of 2.5mg dex + 5mg ritalin twice a day and it works really well for my attention deficit traits, the combo works better than each separately for me and it allows me to take a lower effective dose. Not sure how people can take like 50mg of dex a day for extended periods. Negatives are it makes me more boring and I lose a bit of my personality, so I only take it on days I need it.

It doesn't boost my energy at all, and it's pretty damn subtle...a coffee is much more stimulating. If you wanted to counteract that kind of tiredness/lethargy I think you'd need to take high doses fairly often, and you'd have to keep increasing your dose as your tolerance grows. I took higher doses than prescribed of my dex for a month and a half and it wasn't even enjoyable - I got less done, mood wasn't boosted apart from first dose in the morning for about an hour.

You might want to look at Bupropion. I'll be trying it out eventually, if it works it'd be a good replacement for stimulants.

Some info -

Bupropion (/bjuːˈproʊ.piː.ɑːn/ bew-proh-pee-ahn[1]; marketed as Wellbutrin, Zyban, Voxra, Budeprion, or Aplenzin; formerly known as amfebutamone[2]) is an atypical antidepressant and smoking cessation aid.

The drug is a non-tricyclic antidepressant and differs from most commonly prescribed antidepressants such as SSRIs, as its primary pharmacological action is thought to be norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibition.

It binds selectively to the dopamine transporter, but its behavioural effects have often been attributed to its inhibition of norepinephrine reuptake.[3][4] It also acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist.[5][6] Bupropion belongs to the chemical class of aminoketones and is similar in structure to stimulants cathinone and diethylpropion, and to phenethylamines in general.

Bupropion improved ratings of "energy", which had decreased under the influence of the SSRI; also noted were improvements of mood and motivation, and some improvement of cognitive and sexual functions

I've read some good success stories of bupropion helping out with anxiety, but apparently it can also increase it. Read other reports of people switching to it from stimulants and finding increased motivation.

It's only on the PBS for Smoking cessation unfortunately and not sure about the price otherwise. If you smoke like I do it might be a loophole you can use to get the PBS, but haven't looked into it that much yet.

Stimulants IMO are in that group of drugs where you really don't want to use them unless you absolutely have to. There has to be more things you could try out beforehand. I think medically, stimulants should only be used for boosting mood and reducing fatigue in cancer patients, HIV patients etc. the fact that you'll quickly develop a tolerance to these effects brings up the question, to what end? Are you just going to stay on stimulants for the rest of your life with ever increasing doses? Will the stims compound your anxiety, and does this mean you'll have to increase your benzo intake?

Don't know your situation in detail but summed up IMO - so not worth it.
