Can ritalin cause this type of chest pain? Anything to worry about?

Having pain on left hand side of my chest when I breath out or in... if I hold my breath there is no problem... can't do that for long though ! Heart rate around 140.

20mg ritalin

Yeh, it don't feel so good either. Wouldn't have thought such a small dose would cause the pain.

avoid caffeine and all other stimulants when taking ritalin. i only get chest pain when i drink caffeine or something.

Not to come across wrong, but I'd recommend talking to your doctor about this, not us. Chest pains in conjunction with stimulant (such as methylphenidate) use is never a good sign.

We all are. :(

OP:
Seems like a downer is what you need, take a benzo or drink. If that doesn't help then its serious. If the chest pain goes away from a downer its just from tachycardia

^ countering a stimulant with depressants is not what I'd call the safest advice, especially with such limited information. Stimulant use has been known to bring up heart issues that people did not realize they had prior to use.

So what would you suggest to the OP? Its just what I suggested since most recreational users have more recreational drugs, heart meds would probably be better, but I don't think its a nice idea to steal meds from your gramps.

OP, don't take any more drugs, see a doctor as soon as you can. It might turn out to be anything from musculosketal tension or acid reflux or pericarditis to something very serious. Any kind of chest pain is aggravated by stimulants and it's probably nothing major, but it could be. Some tachycardia from stimulants is normal, chest pain from tachycardia is dangerous.
We can't diagnose you. If you have an undiagnosed heart condition as many young people do, taking stimulants is dangerous. Worrying about it will keep your heart racing too. If you can go to a GP he will tell you in minutes what is wrong.

Edit: I had an incident like this, and it turned out to be nothing major (slouching on stimulants can definitely give you muscular chest pains, it seems) but if it happened again I would go right back to the doctor. There is too much to lose.
