So after a terrible experience after taking a bad ecstasy pill over 3 months ago, i still havnt recovered. Think it may have been a pipe.

I have feeling of being 'light' (not lightheaded) the 'day after rolling' feeling, feeling disconnected, extreme anxiety, and depression, sometimes things feel fake as well.

Ive been on 20mgs of Celexa for 2 months now, as well as the occasional Xanax.

I finally saw a Psychiatrist for the first time last week and after a short talk, he decided to keep me on the Celexa, Xanax, and prescribed me Risperidone.

I'm very hesitant to take the Risperidone, because im not sure why I was prescribed it. I did some research and all I read was it is for the treatment of Bi-polar disorder, which I dont have, treatment for Schizophrenia, help controlling Autism, and mood swings, all of which I most definitely dont have.

So why should I take this? The Psychiatrist just told me it will help me think more clearly....my thought's arent foggy though :/ im confused and nervous to take this med.

Well ive been on this med on and off for about 2 years for bipolar disorder. It helps alot sometimes but has it's share of shitty side effects. It's the worst atypical for causing the movement disorders you get with anti-psychotics i think. That and it can cause sexual dysfunction cause it fucks with certain hormones and is a very potent dopamine antagonist.

What dose are you prescribed as that makes a big difference in regards to side effects. If it's only 0.5mg's or 1mg a day i doubt you will even notice you are taking it but get above 2mg's and you can get hit with the zombie effect pretty hard. I don't know why your doctor would script it either unless they thought you had some kind of psychotic disorder. So i dunno :\

I was prescribed Risperidone at age 16 without any warning of the side effects, which for me included gaining 50 lbs. in 3 months and being too shaky to hold a pen (even after taking an anti-Parkinson's drug). YMMV

Anti-psychotics should only be taken by people with hallucinations, delusions or severe treatment-resistant depression, IMO. Even then, the risks often outweigh the benefits. Ever heard of Tardive dyskinesia? It's one of the known risks of atypical anti-psychotics like Risperdal. The sedation caused by these drugs can be so severe that it's almost laughable the doc said "risperidone" and "clear thinking" in the same breath.

Here's a basic overview.

You're smart for doing your research first.

I'm also currently taking risperidone at .5mg a night but have been spotty with my memory to take it and it's only been for the last few weeks now, a psychiatrist prescribed it for Borderline Personality Disorder. Before she even knew me well, she was trying to force Seroquel down my throat. Psych doctors seem to be very liberal with these medications, which I thought was the case with giving me a not-very-low dose of Seroquel after the first visit (another atypical antipsychotic, only I find this one has MISERABLE side effects that I can't handle). The risperidone at a low dose for me at this point doesn't seem ridiculous, but I was still resistant about it...my psych doctor told me to give it an honest try and then I could decide.

Have you been experiencing those side effects throughout the time of being on Celexa also? I took it for a couple years before anyone figured out what was wrong with me and why I shouldn't be taking it, as well as was prescribed Xanax with it....do you see these things helping yet? SSRIs can take a little while to kick in, and that's a low dose.
