I smocked weed for five years now and then i got schizophrenia and my doctor put me on Risperidone, but once on risperidone I could not feel high from weed

so my question's are : Does risperidone block the body and brain from feeling high (or stoned ) ?

what can i do to feel high from weed again ?

What drug can i switch to other then risperidone for my schizophrenia , but that will let me feel high from smocking weed?

Antipsychotics block Dopamine, which is responsible for many of the pleasurable effects you feel from the cannabis high.

Honestly, if your level of schizophrenia actually warrants antipsychotics, you should probably stay away from all psychedelics, cannabis included.

take a break from the smokage. antipsychotics take a lot of getting used to. its best to just let it happen as easily as possible without trying to get high on other stuff.

I've never heard of this. I have a friend who was on risperidone for a while and smoked weed daily. They definitely got high. They were not schizo though

I wouldn't be surprised if this is an alter-ego but regardless, nobody actually said it's harmless. You're clutching at straws to prove a point.

In any case, anti-psychotics might block the effects of drugs like amphetamines and some psychedelics to an extent, but cannabis? I've personally not ever heard of that happening. I can't say don't smoke it if you have schizophrenia because I do and find it helps with my symptoms (although I take olanzapine not resperidone) but it's probably not the best of ideas as it can in theory make symptoms worse, especially if it's a high THC/low CBD strain. That however is true of all drugs, meaning you should stay away from everything that gets you high, including alcohol (especially alcohol). Annoying I know but it's in your best interests.

??? since when? Cannabis does not effect release of dopamine, nor is it even associated to the alteration of dopamine.

Same story, with a few people. One of them was schizophrenic, though, and still got high.

Chainer, cannabis indirectly causes a release of dopamine iirc. Just like opioids, they don't directly release dopamine (amps), but cause dopamine to be released through indirect mechanisms. Why else would it work for treating symptoms of ADHD for a lot of people?

I read this from a single source, however, so I'm not sure of its validity, but why are you so confident that it has nothing to do with dopamine? Have you researched this specifically? Can you find me a source that supports your claim?

I thought the CBD in cannabis helped schizophrenic patients? So since THC is the psychoactive ingredient does that mean they would experience stages of psychosis while under the influence?

^ high amounts of THC administered alone intravenously can create psychotic symptoms, there's no doubt about that, but you can't extrapolate that to smoking herbal cannabis in its natural state, since there's a whole plethora of cannabinoids interacting with each other. High THC strains can cause feelings of anxiety and paranoia whilst the person is high, but the effects soon wear off some hours afterwards and it's not something to worry too much about since it is very unlikely to do any permanent physical harm.

CBD has anti-anxiety and anti-psychotic properties so strains with a ratio of 1:1 CBD will be far less likely to cause these paranoid and anxious side effects. It's been bred out of many strains unconsciously when breeders select for potency but there are strains you can buy that still have decent levels of CBD due to deliberate selective breeding. See the Project CBD for more info. CBD also has anti-inflammatory, anti-pain and anti-spasm amongst other benefits so this is why cannabis, particularly certain strains of cannabis, has such wide beneficial medicinal properties and is the closest thing to a medical panacea we have IMO.

It might be that for many a mostly CBD strain or a 1:1 CBD:THC strain could be beneficial for schizophrenic symptoms for a subgroup of patients. At the very least the anecdotal evidence seems to suggest it could be very useful but more research needs to be done.

Can someone please shed some light on this please

Surely cannabis affects dopamine, does it not cause a bio mechanical cascade, increasing the feeling of pleasure?
People with low dopamine related depression tend to not feel pleasure in life no?

This is something i read too, about CBD actually being perhaps a treatment for schizophrenia

I certainly find it helpful and have managed to reduce my dose of olanzapine by a third. I'm hoping to be able to switch back to quetiapine in actual fact since I've managed to get my symptoms back under control.
