So after being diagnosed with schizophrenia last year the psychiatrist I was seeing suggested I try Risperdal Consta and I stupidly agreed to take it. I took it for roughly seven months then finally decided to stop taking it. The drug company says the elimination phase of the drug is 7-8 weeks but it's been 10 weeks since my last injection and the drug is clearly still in my system. I still have adhedonia, am overweight, apathetic, emotionless, and have a lower libido. It's really frustrating because I've expected things to have changed by now but they haven't. I wake up every morning disappointed to still be deprived of life. I realize that there have been others who've been in this same frustrating situation, whether they were given Risperdal Consta, Invega Sustenna, or another injectable antipsychotic. One guy on this site said he was on Risperdal Consta and said it took about 3 months to feel better, I'm wondering if there are any others who've been on this fucking drug but who eventually felt it ware off.
Thanks.

I think each person is different to the effects of these antipsychotics.

Of the people i have read about that endure symptoms such as apathy, anhedonia, no libido, empty feelings, problems socializing, fatigue, general low motivation ect....it can take up to 2 years to get better.

10 weeks is nothing.
The only permanent symptom may be tardive dyskinesia....and involuntary motor coordination issue.

If you told a doctor or psychiatrist about the symptoms, they will tell you these are negative symptoms resulting from schizophrenia. But im sure you know the medication caused them...

I wasn't on an injectable AP but I was on a max dose of zyprexa for about 4-5 years. It took me until recently to start feeling better. I was really sick for about 13 months. Usually after a year or so most people feel significantly better. Some it can take up to two years but everyone is different. Some people do have permanent issues but most people do recover. Hang in there, it will pass.

The half life is only part of the equation. It just takes time for your brain to readjust from the changes that were made while on medication. This can be a slow process.

I was put on the drug for three months and it took another six after cessation to feel normal again. Admittedly, it was for a manic episode, and how much of that six months was just my first "real" bipolar depression and how much was due to the risperdal, I don't know, but try and stay positive.

risperdal is a shit drug. I been on it. I had the stuff that you were describing. I was slow as hell and experienced nasty side effects. My family and friends were like what the fuck is wrong with this guy? I was like that for 3 weeks until I realize I can just refuse this drug. Listen, you don't have to take this shit if you don't want to. You can always refuse. Unless the doctor physically puts the drug in your mouth, you can just fuck it. That drug does no fucking good. They gave it to you because you were probably crazy, but you can just refuse! don't take this stupid shit. all it does is give you side effects and make you stupid as hell. Why the hell would you bother taking this shit?

^Your personal experiences with particular medicines are welcome here. However, we do not encourage people to refuse a medicine that has been prescribed for them. Please do not encourage people to refuse to cooperate with their doctor.

I also hate Risperdone with a passion, but are you retarded? I was put on it for bipolar mania, and found it totally unnecessary, but I've seen enough psychotic people to know that being on Risperdal is a damn sight better than being psychotic.
