What is the quality and how is the scene down there with the tournament going on? Are there certain things to avoid doing while in the area that will endanger me which are not obvious?

I figured you already came and went back home by now... anyway... coke is currently of really bad quality in Brazil ... In my opinion the bad quality is already from (Bolivia or Colombia) the source...
I actually live further south in Brazil and althgh they say that where there is drug dealing there will no other crime... that is you will not be robbed, etc... I would suggest that as a tourist just ask for the staff at the hotel you're staying. The worse can happen is the person smile and say can't help you... nobody will call the police for your "solicitation"
