Hate to link to another forum as a citation, but I couldn't find the original posting of these studies online:
Rhodiola rosea inhibits MAO-A and MAO-B
Is there a significant chance of interaction with drugs or food at normal doses of Rhodiola rosea extract, as there would be with a prescription MAOI?
I'm in possession of a bottle of 500mg extract capsules and have already taken the bulk of them over the past month or so. Frequently I've mixed them with coffee, tea, weed, even harder stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin occasionally. And benzo's as well.
Rhodiola does seem to raise my blood pressure; combined with other drugs which can do the same thing, it has left me feeling rather light-headed (once or twice to the point of feeling about to faint) and seeing spots, especially when changing the elevation of my head too rapidly. There's a distinct, somewhat throbbing feeling in my head and extremities I've come to associate with elevated blood pressure, as confirmed by sporadic bp testing.
Rhodiola, even combined with other drugs, doesn't seem to do much to my heart rate. It's a crapshoot as to whether a dosing lulls me to bed or stimulates me; hence my tendency to combine it either with caffeine to assure a pep-me-up effect. Regardless, the extract tends to imbue me with a general sense of contented productivity and nicely calibrated enthusiasm.
Though I've had no real problems so far, I want to be sure I'm not being brash or reckless.
