Reusable Water Bottles

I use a Nalgene - love it. The bottle lid you can attach to a backpack if you want it for easy access.

Now this is a good invention.

Im not sure what language Nalgeene is but obviously it either means No green or No algee.

Either way, at least its gunna be safe.

There's bacteria on every surface of your house, in every breath you breathe, living inside your intestines. You should cut them out. And then live in a bubble.

^ this is true but isn't the concern people have with reusing plastic bottles more to do with the plastic polymers in the grade of plastic and the effect heat and light have on that plastic?

There are beneficial bacteria and cultures available all over and you would have a full time job on your hands trying to avoid them, however mould and nasties that can cause stomach infections and volatile bowel activity are best avoided surely

Anyways for no particular reason I wrote this post about my hiking water particulars.

http://blog.sierratradingpost.com/i...scare-causes-nalgene-to-pull-plastic-bottles/

I don't care, I only use my Nalgenes rarely for hiking. Plus I love cancer, bring that shit on!

I usually take 2 1L nalgenes, a 4L MSR Dromedary water bag, + a 2L caribee water bladder (like from a camelback) with the water drinking nozzle thing on a tube (there's a slot in my pack for the tube to come out and a pocket inside it for the bladder).

My friend also has this wicked water pump:

It screws straight on to the Nalgenes, dromedary bag, and bladder so you can filter water straight from a creek etc. into your water containers. If you have reason to be paranoid you can treat it further with this stuff (http://www.katadyn.com/sgen/katadyn...r-micropur-tankline/micropur-tankline-mt-box/).

But not a fucking lot gets through that filter.

^ Is your backpack a Carabee too? I've been looking intensively at the Carabee backpacks on ebay for the last 6 weeks or so. I want a couple of packs actually, one little one for shopping, fishing etc and a bigger one for longer walks in the bush. Carabee seems like the brand to get, but I would have to drive a couple of hours to have a look at them up the coast.

Those Dromedary bladders look quality. American :)

Nah, I've got a Black Wolf pack (90L):

http://www.blackwolf.com.au/travel-packs/grand-teton-200692185755/

I bought it before I went to Alaska and got that pack specifically because there is a zip cover that tucks away the whole harness so you can just carry it from a handle on the side like a suitcase, which is convenient for airports, check in and all that jazz where you don't want straps and shit dangling everywhere. Also I wanted one with a detacheable daypack, so on long hikes if I want to check something off the main track I can just dump my pack and still have some food, water, first aid etc. Oh and importantly it's got a rain cover zipped up in the top which covers the whole pack it it starts raining. Nothing worse than walking all day in the rain and not having dry clothes to change into :)

And yeah the dromedary bladders are really high quality. You can drop them on sharp shit and they don't break + so much easier to fit comfortably in a pack than plastic bottles which I used to use. And as Taliana mentioned a while ago one reason Nalgene's are great is the loop of plastic holding the lid on is very strong so awesome for hanging them off the outside of your pack when the pack's full of food etc. and you need an extra litre or two of water (long distances between water sources).

^ I have virtually that exact pack with all those features, except a different brand (and mine is green). It's been great, I've had it for more than 10 years now. Too big for everyday use really, but it comes out from time to time.

So you happy with Black Wolf as a brand? The local disposals sell them and I should support him really, but I am a brand whore and love Caribee stuff! But that would no way be supporting my local businesses, convince me to buy one! ;) I think both Carabee and Black Wolf are Australian companies and their gear is made in China for both of them.

I didn't know much about the brand before I bought it and don't now but I really like the pack and it's worn well.

Haha I'm not a salesman, I just bought it because feature wise it had what I was looking for. You know, just like you with Carabee, I'd probably buy another one if I needed it just because I'm familiar with the brand now and they didn't let me down first time round. I don't think brands really matter, just quality. I also like when brands make a pretty unique product, and even when it's copied heaps it remains the best. For that reason I'd buy Nalgenes again a thousand times, because I know they're really durable from experience. I also know if I want a torch I can drop a million times with a quality beam I'm going to buy a maglight (also they just feel nice and hefty and lethal in the hand).

So anyway, rambling aside, I'd just really recommend you choose what you like, and has a good reputation.

Oh and it's definitely a personal choice thing but I really hate packs with a dangly bulbous top thing that clips down.

Wow. I like to think of myself as someone that isn't panicked by all the cancer-scares, but seeing the quotes "the study implies BPA can actually cause aggressive cancers" and
"University of Cincinnati scientists found that BPA leaches from polycarbonate containers at room temperature whether the bottle is old or new. More alarming, when the bottle has hot water in it, the chemical is released up to 55 times faster." is something that I'm definitely going to pay attention to. I believe they are making BPA-free ones now anyway. Anyhoo, they're probably full of things that are just as bad or worse for us, that we haven't identified yet. :)

Buy a Sigg, you won't be unhappy with it!I use both of mine everyday and love them! :D

I looked at Carabee backpacks up the coast today and they are awesome. I am going to get one off ebay though because they are virtually half price on there. Woo hoo!

^ Nice :)

This reminds of when I lived at my parents place. One morning I got out of bed to find some pest guy spraying poison all over the parquetry, after I'd already walked out onto it in bare feet (the floor was literally soaking wet with whatever he was spraying). The guy informed me that the poison is harmless and I can walk in it all I like. I thought at the time that that's exactly what people said about asbestos, then cleaned my feet, put on shoes and left the house.

Hey Klue, sign up to brandsexclusive.com.au they have a caribee sale on at the moment.
They only have a few items on there but if it's got what you're looking for the savings will be about 50% or just under :)

^ Hmm, I think C0TB sent me an invite to that site. They don't have the one I want :(

Thanks thought! :D

Yeah, and DDT!

Klue I always worried about any water bottle that you cant see into.

Isnt it possible that algae or other crap could get inside those and you never know?

considering the stuff that most of us have put into our bodies over the years, maybe a little algae is a good thing..
