Opioids Restless Leg Syndrome

I suffer RLS naturally and have also had it worse off opiate withdrawal. Forgive my "grandma" suggestions but these things helped me:

*Regularly taking magnesium (I was also taking zinc, b complex and cod liver oil anyway but I don't know if they helped at all)
* A hot bath, warmth helps, and get some epsom salts from the chemist and chuck loads of it in there.
* Massaging your calves if this is where you feel it most, I was surprised the most by this one.

what is an "indica" strain of cannabis as opposed to a sativa? i thought all regular smokeable mj, i.e. normal buds or dank or whatever, fell under the moniker "cannabis sativa" - no?

I get an RLS type problem when it's my time of the month, and I've found the muscle relaxer Flexeril to work quite well for it...doesn't have any mind-altering affects which is good if you're trying to stay away from getting high. Just a suggestion though, since I've never gone through opiate w/d.

on or off of drugs, RLS is so fucking hard to get under control because it's neurological.

i wish i had some advice other than try whatever you can, because it takes most people ages to find something that works.

even if they help, try to stay away from the opiates. depending on them for an issue like this and then having to go without makes for a nightmarish situation.

try soaking in a hot bath before bedtime and massaging your legs. or if you have someone else to do it for you, even better. stay busy and on your feet throughout the day and try and maintain a routine.

i wish i could help more, but RLS is relentless and unforgiving. keep trying whatever you can.

Would sedative tricyclics work? (Amitriptyline, Trimipramine).

^I'd be careful with any anticholinergics, most of them increase my restlessness. I used nortriptyline to try to help me sleep a few times and it didn't really help or hurt the restlessness. If you are going the anticholinergic route I'd recommend doxylamine (unisom) or hydroxyzine (vistaril).

Again I ask. Has anyone used clonidine for it? I am thinking about getting some for when I am jonesing. It isn't hard to get without a script with a simple google search if you are familiar with the legit online overseas pharmacies.

Well getting referred to a RLS clinic/study hospital. (Im in a Big City Area)

Im not telling them they are Opiated related...... Dont wanna deal with that shit and a basic life long ban of pain killers plus they wont give me a Benzo or something really effective.

So hopefully i can get Kpins or something just so i wont claw my eyes out and cut my fucking legs and arms off..... in the mean time i gave in and took a OXY30 with a few shots.... that killed the RLS.... ill let you know how it all goes. Thanks for the support and all the info.

You guys rock for all the help , caring, and advice. Unfortunately my willpower could only make it 5 months with the requip (before the RLS took over my want to stay clean... this is about 2 weeks ago) and valium. upon further research and your guys info i dont know why my neurologist gave me valium as opposed to Kpins......

Anyway i hope the Center for RLS or w/e it is give me something cause im considering just going back to OXY..... the subs sucked kicking them alot worse then the OXY... so next time ill skip the subs.....

BUt in the mean time thnx again its always good info and the SUPPORT rocks.

Thaks again guys PEACE

^If you are participating in studies its good to know you are cool with compromising study data so that you can find relief you could find elsewhere. Familiarize yourself with HIPAA laws, if you disclose to one doctor you abused opiates, unless you choose to release that information from that doctor to another, they won't know. There isn't a Junkie database and doctors don't solicit your information from every doctor you've seen in the past when you become a patient.

So when i go to the RLS clinic your telling me i should say its Opiate related???? if thats the case i dont think they will give me benzos for relief...... Plus like i said i dont even want to be in 1 database as a "dope head" thats all they look at it as.

RLS sucks..... But this requip What if i take alot.... it wont help at all? It takes the edge off and ive even bumped it before..... it worked... But i guess like u said wait through WD's or do more opiates lol.....
Be careful with the Requip. I asked my doctor for that, (opiate stopping induced RLS) and he said no. Its because it can make you very compulsive.

There is no "database". There are individual medical records kept by offices and if for any other doctor to see them (except in extraordinary situations) YOU have to sign off on them being transferred.

There are ways to get benzos without fucking up a medical study (if you are involved in a study... if you are just going to a clinic, I don't care). And what makes you think you'll get benzos when dopamine agonists are the current therapeutic staple?

I dont even need a benzo... i just want something that stops my RLS casue requip dont do shit....... I can control my urger to do the drug but i cant control my fucking legs.... so waht ever it is ... a benzo, some other drug, w/e.... i just want the RLS gone casue untill then im smoking a pack a day and i will continue to self medicate with opiates.........

uh CLONODINE ,im about to go to a doc to get some and promethazine to help ease me off methadone ,i get it in all limbs so SO SO SO bad i wanna pull my hair out

BUT i have found if you have it in your legs ,RUB your skin like you are messaging them ,but kind of quickly,it helps ,you can do this with the arms as well....

cant believe one personONLY,mentioned clonodine ,most symptoms are from blood pressure so clonodine will help alot

Indica strains are mostly recognized from their big leaves and are vertically challenged, the effects are mainly a body stone. On the other hand Sativas are tall and have thin leaves, these produce mind altering psycho-analytic highs(the thinking ones).

Personally i like strains that are about 70 - 30 sativa indica mix respectively, but sometimes it just depends on the day.

peace.

I just read your post again, and for the most part the textbook-genre is Cannabis Sativa, but as you now know when referring to effects there is a difference.

^Just to add on a bit (although everything you said is spot on)... indica tend to be darker and more dense while sativa are lighter colored and fluffier. Indica are more sedating and analgesic and have a higher CBD:THC ratio and CBD is an anticonvulsant and that is why it's more beneficial for RLS and pain.

As I stated above, I've been treated for RLS for many years, and I see a Mayo neurologist every year. If requip (& other dopaminergics) don't work well for you, either b/c you can't tolerate them, or b/c of augmentation or some other problem, opioids are the next level of treatment. They anticipate & expect that natural tolerance will lead to gradual increases in opioids throughout your course of treatment. I started out on the occasional Norco, and ended up on 240mg Oxy/day 25 years later. I hate it but I have no choice.

Find a doctor who you are comfortable with & set up a treatment plan. I'm sure you'll have to due a sleep study, etc., but it's a small price to pay for a normal life.

In response to some other questions/comments above, Clonidine has been used to treat RLS, but it's listed as a less effective treatment. I've never tried it so I can't comment on it. Regarding muscle relaxants - RLS is a neurological condition, not muscular, so they don't work on RLS. I have tried these & they haven't helped.

Again, good luck.

i just want something that stops my RLS casue requip dont do shit..
I hear you - it sucks big time! Thats the worse symptom of w/d imo.
The only thing I've ever had take away RLS was another opiate or TIME.

EDIT- MY doctor gave me some Quinine pills- 300mgs. for RLS But I suppose I never gave them time to see if they worked.

Hylands with Quinine

Hey, this is my first post here... :)

I just wanted to tell you what I used several times with great success.

It's called:

Hyland's Leg Cramps With Quinine Caplets

You can read about them here:

Code:
http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp?skuId=237312&productId=237312&WT.mc_id=Shopping_Feed_Products_Google_Free_Listing

The pills must contain "Quinine" which is slowly being removed from most drug stores here in the US. Last time I was looking for it, I went to Walgreens and asked the pharmacist where they were located because i couldn't find them on the shelves...

He looked at me like I just asked him where they kept the raw cocaine and told me that they no longer carried Quinine, I asked him why and he told me people were abusing it...

On the flip side, the pills can be used as a potentiator to the opiates most people are currently using...

I use it successfully for both things.

1.) One use is to keep my fiance from killing me when in WD's (or should i say to keep me from killing her with my constant movement and need to stretch out all night long)

2.) The other way I use it is when enjoying poppy tea... I take two of the pills, break them in half, and swallow them. Doing this makes me itch again, which doesn't usually happen anymore and hasn't for about a year or so...

Either way you choose to use them, I have had great success both ways and they don't cost much at all so it's worth giving it a shot.

Hope this helps you out like it did me... without them I might not have made it through some of those nights in the past.

I also tried Requip and it made me sick to my stomach. At least I got to move my legs running to the bathroom.
I had problems with RLS before I became a perc/vicodin addict and never really noticed it had gone away until I get WDs from them. Then it comes back full force.
I take xanax (1 to 1-1/2 mg on a daily basis (2-3x Day) for my panic attacks and it did NOTHING for the RLS I have been experincing all night last night and today :-(
