Yet another Heroin constipation thread. I'm feeling defeated. Likely all going to be TMI.

I need to clean out my intestines. Been backed up for at least a week (last week had a couple poops). Was able to go a few days ago but it wasn't much so I need something drastic or else I'll need to seek medical help. Its worth noting that I have no pain, no discomfort, no issues; Just haven't been pooping and know better what can happen so trying to get my shit figured (pun intended).

Here is what I've done:
- Started clear-lax a few days ago (Miralax basically) stool softener. I was using it improperly at first and not using anywhere near enough, starting with the proper dosage (probably a bit extra) today.
- 3 or 4 nights ago I took 1 dose of ex-lax (sennosides - box says 1 or 2 doses a day). Next morning is when I had a couple hard nug's and a few loose/sticky poops that were not very big. There must be a lot more shit in there (pun again intended).
- Been drinking A LOT of water, probably to much, been doing this for at least the last 5 days.
- Eating less food. Eating yogurt, had Pho/soup, bananas, Caesar salad (I'm sure other stuff), just trying to be mindful of what goes in. Was at an event this evening and had no choice but to eat pizza because that's what was there. Not a bright move but oh well.
- 2 nights ago I did a Mineral Oil Enema (figured it would be milder than the sodium one I've used long ago with great results), it made some movement in there, had some poop flakes and a bit of mucous but nothing of value came out, likely didn't hold long enough.

So tonight I went a bit nuclear, lots of water, lots and lots. 2 sennoside pills (max dose), a full+ dose of clear-lax, had my spouse do one of those colon massages on my belly which definitely caused a bunch of rumbling in there and did a few squats. About to go to bed, when I wake up I plan to not do any dosing until I have to poop but tomorrow is very busy for me (work, event with friends for their kids bday, etc.) so I may not be able to refrain from dosing until the afternoon. I'm hoping going until withdrawal + some black coffee (and a short walk if its not to cold out) will fix me up but the sodium enema will get used if I can't go that long not dosing the H, I have a Fleet Enema; that one historically has the best results.

I should also state that my constipation isn't that it feels like shit is there and wont move out. I don't feel like I have to go 99% of the time, I sit down and try but pushing isn't really doing anything, feels like there is nothing at my ass to push out.

Anyone else have other suggestions?

Yes. I can be of help.

Magnesium supplements. Citrate usually works pretty good. 400mg

Fish oil capsules should be taken daily by every heroin addict on earth. 2g

Go on a walk

Be aware that fecal impacting can be horrific and you don’t want a colostomy bag.

Continue with the yogurt salads etc

For no social reason whatsoever should you be eating pizza or any shit like that

And for no social reason whatsoever should you dose until you’ve shit.

Pack your dose to go with you to work or wherever tomorrow and just wait until your fish oil greases up your guts and your magnesium citrate softens your stool and the other measures you’ve taken go into effect. Once that dope sickness kicks in you’ll definitely pass the stool and you’ll feel so much better because right then and there you can dose. You’ll already be in the bathroom. Just a quick wash of the hands and you’re ready for your issue.

Good luck!

Biscodyl suppositories combined with a very high dose of nicotine.

I have found the following most helpful:
-psyllium husks, with plenty of water of course - and any other fibre is good especially soluble fibre such as from oats
-magnesium chloride, added to water, which makes it taste quite nice too
-nicotine gum, in severe cases (don’t recommend for a regular use)

OTC stool softeners make me gassy, personally I wouldn’t touch things like MiraLAX or mineral oil because I’m a health nut.

Taking oil definitely helps, but unfortunately, most fish oil supplements are rancid. I would instead recommend that you increase healthy fats in your diet. Red meat, dairy, small fatty fish, coconut oil, extra extra-virgin oil. The last is the only thing I would drink in substantial amounts for intentional laxative effects. I find that black seed oil is amazing for inflammation and as an antimicrobial, and I often take up to 3 tablespoons of that daily.

Prune juice and milk of magensia.

PLEASE avoid psylium husk! (also found in metamucil). It killed my mom!

Certain fiber should be avoided when dealing with opioid constipation. Psylium husk is a fiber that will bulk up your stool, making it bigger & harder, which is the last thing you want to do on opioids. Your stool is already probably bulked up & hard & taking psylium husk could put you into fecal impaction / colon tearing territory.
That's what happened to my mom. She was dealing with constipation from meds & started taking generic metamucil (pyslium husk) & it ended up causing a fecal impaction that ripped her colon. And since she was on chemotherapy for leukemia, she had no immune system, so they couldn't do surgery to repair her colon & just put her in hospice instead.

It's imperative that you stick with osmotive laxatives & stool softeners when dealing with opioid constipation.

Psylium husk might be okay for regular people who have occasional irregularity, but using it as a laxative for opioid constipation is playing with fire.

I'd also recommend upping your probiotic & prebiotic intake. I drink keifer & yogurt. You have to make sure you eat prebiotics in order for probiotics to really work. It'll give me gas some times, but that can be a good thing because gas will help propel things forward through your large intestine. And if you can still pass gas, then that's at least a sign that you don't have a bowel obstruction.

Go to your local drugstore and pick up a bottle of Magnesium Citrate. I had a doctor tell me to drink the stuff 24 hours before getting a sigmoidoscopy so I'd be all emptied out. I chugged the bottle, and then the next morning... hoo boy... All I can say is be sure to stay close to a bathroom for the next 24 hours, because you'll have the most epic BM of your life. I swear, I think my body may have physically lifted up off the toilet for a couple seconds.

It tastes pretty gross, but it's a godsend for those of us with this particular habit.

Lots of people on opiates use psyllium husk safely. But you do need to drink extra water. That’s very important, as I noted. It might not be for everyone but it can work very well if you stay well hydrated. I’m sorry to hear about your mom, but her situation is not everyone’s situation.

Prebiotics are great, as are probiotics - though I found it’s very difficult to find effective formulations of the latter which actually contain live cultures. I have more luck just making my own kefir - super easy - & eating as many fermented foods as I can, and just a wide variety of produce overall.

I’ve had no luck with stool softeners though because they just cause so much unpleasant, uncomfortable gas. Everyone’s gut biome is unique and thus will require unique solutions. I recommend trying all the options, with care!

@Spideronthewall How did everything go?
I went a few more days without shitting. Ended up running dry and thats what did it, but all the Clearlax meant I was shitting liquid for like 3 days after lol I'm using again and it means I'm bound up again, gonna try to take tomorrow off. My breaks in the morning after waking up are getting longer and longer but im at 5 days without pooping again. I just need to sober up. I'm on a relapse so no reason for me not too.

The problem is, my diet isn't great and im dealing with a mountain of stress so not using is pretty hard. Living so close to the USA right now has been incredible stressful for us. (I'm really really close). Wouldn't be an issue if I wasn't going through gigantic personal financial changes and buying a home. So I'm incredibly worried how their actions will effect us and worried that my life my crumble if our economy does.

I get why you feel stressed and anxious, and that it would be hard(er) for you to quit right now. You don't seem very concerned about other aspects of your use, and I don't get the feeling that you even want to quit.
That leaves the pooping as the big problem here.

So why not start improving your wellbeing by making adjustments to your diet? @fairnymph gave a few suggestions.
Also eating veggies and doing more exercise, even if it's just taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or walking to a certain point t instead of using the car, walking to next bus station instead of waiting for the bus to come.

To tag on to lecroute’s post. I reiterate that two grams of fish oil a day in the morning with yogurt kept me regular for five years. I get more constipated for immodium than I do heroin

And once again I just have to day I don't suffer any constipation
Regular always, no matter the opiod, just lucky I guess but suppositories works great too..

I wont use suppositories or laxatives unless im in an emergency situation like I was the other day. I do use Clearlax while using because its perfectly safe to use regularly.

I'm not concerned because I've only been using for about a month and a half on this relapse. I quit for 6 years previously and when im ready I wont have much problem. If I can quit methadone then heroin will be easy. I'm just accumulating comfort meds right now to get me through the first week. Funny enough, heroin is easier to obtain than some of these comfort meds.

For now, I'd rather be comfortable because there's a lot of shit going on, cant be dealing with even a week of sickness.

I was thinking about this and I at one point was about 14 years deep into addiction and rarely if ever dealt with constipation.

But I think the only reason its bothering me now is because I've been (somewhat) regular for the past 4-6 (idk how long ive been clean now) years so I'm acutely aware that I haven't gone to the bathroom. I'm not experiencing any symptoms that make this distressing, just aware that I haven't gone.
