So, I was wondering about this recently; using the syringe to draw up the fluid that misses your vein, in the event of a miss.... Like starting to inject, seeing the small bubble start forming, and then drawing back on the plunger in an attempt to remove the missed fluid... I've tried this before, but only had the opportunity once or twice because I rarely miss, and it def didnt seem to work... I'm curious as to why. Seems if you squirt some fluid into a mass and then create suction from the same place, the fluid should come right back, right? ..Or is it like absorbed quickly, like a cottton, and absorbs faster/easier than it can be drawn out of? Any ideas peeps?

I think the reason this doesn't work often is that the hole in the end of the needle gets plugged by tissue attracted by the suction of the draw back.. the lower the gauge on the needle the better the chances.. so a 26 gauge three ml.. will do allot better than a 30 gauge 100 unit insulin. you may also have better luck if you reposition the end of the needle so that is seems to be near the middle of the "small bubble."

The fluid gets dispersed into the tiny crevices of your muscle tissue. There isn't just a pocket of liquid sloshing around that can be sucked back up.. Unfortunately if you miss, that shot is done. Only thing to do is apply a hot compress and speed up how fast it gets absorbed.

If you'd be doing this in order to re-inject it, I'd recommend against it. Sounds like it could be a really easy way to both damage tissue if you start doing this regularly, and could possibly cause your shot to be contaminated with bacteria / other fluids that you would not want to inject into your bloodstream.

cool guys, thats all really good thinking, thank you. i figured the mass of miss wasnt just a bubble of fluid, but more like an engorged area of sponge (or muscle tissue, i guess, no need for weak analogies...) .. but on that note, are all misses going to be into actual muscle tissue? cuz, yeah, i cud def see that being a hopeless situation for someone trying to remove the missed fluid (unless, as a previous poster stated, u were to use a large gauge sharp with presumably a greater amount of suction (to cover more surface area at the eyelet (eyelet - proper terminology?) of the needle, therefore having that suction actually affect a greater area which contains the missed fluid (as well as whatever else you got goin on in there)), but personally i really stay away from large gauge punctures.. a buddy of mine once used on of my old 60cc bovine syringes with a god knows how large sharp.. like a finishing nail AT LEAST!.. he was fine but that cudda been a disaster.. anyways, i digress..

I also was wondering about whether or not all misses go into muscle tissue, as touched on earlier... i mean, if you go through the vein and miss, then id see that being likely, but what if ur in the vein and let it slide back out, and the missed fluid accumulates more superficially, or on top of, so to speak, the intended vein? Wouldnt that area be like subcutaneous tissue? Any thought on whether muscle vs subcutaneous tissue would be easier to extract a missed shot from?

As far as the idea of re-injecting it, that arises curiosity in me as well.. assuming all injection techniques are sterile (no contams anywhere), and provided your area of tissue engorged w the miss was healthy, uninfected tissue, then where could possible pathogens come from, and what specific fluids that may be drawn up as a result would be detrimental to your circulatory system? Or damaging in any way? Not that this was my intention, just curious and would like to hear some thoughts...

thanks for the replies guys.. hope my first attempt at posting a pic works

I did this. Missed a shot of ethylphenidate and the next day it was a huge knot the size of a walnut on the crook of my arm. Put like 50 units of water in a 3ml syringe (figured it would help with suction idk..) and pulled out 2.5 mls of yellow liquid. And the knot shrunk to the size of a peanut.

It was one of the most gross, most awesome things ever.
